my suggestion is still: get in UCSD, cause 1 year of waiting doesn't really worth for the school name (difference between UCLA and UCSD is not so big)

if he really want to stay 1 more year to raise his GPA, then Math are good courses to take (if possible, take up to Linear Algebra _ what I have regret that I couldn't).

The second is an other additional English course. He can select anything for the rest.

In the next Winter and Spring (if your cc is quarter system). I would recommend him to take Business courses for A.A degree which will really helpful for his future career, this benefit will partly cover the 1 additional year lost in cc.

lol, in the first year, I couldn't even listen and understand English T_T, I had to take over 50 Units of ESL courses in the first year and half of the second year. That was why. I have about 160-170 units including ESL so far haha. I am senior now ^_^. JK

What if he decided to take easier 5 unit courses than math? Courses like chem, geology, spanish, etc. Would this be ok with UCLA?

as I said, he "should" (not "must") take 1-2 more higher level Math and 1 English to because he got 2 B in those subjects (probably increase his chance to get accepted next year). the rest he can choose anything he wants.

If he doesn't want to take Math..... Well, I don;t know, I just think it's not a good choice.

Quick question, do winter grades count toward your app gpa? I was under the impression that you update your winter session grades after it is over and it counts toward your admission.

only for Fall grade (both Semester and Quarter). that's why I said: your friend can take other UC untransferable Bus classes for his AA degree after Fall.

We don't up winter grade, only Fall
