CWRU to UC

So I just completed my Freshman year at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU). I was a Theater/Economics double major which wish to change to an English/Economics double major. My grades from last year are as follows:

-Fall- (13cr)
Acting 1(3cr)-B
Intro to Philosophy(0cr)-W
Sociology of Social Policy and Poverty(4cr)-A
Modern Dance 1(3cr)-B
Intro to Microeconomics(3cr)-B

-Spring-(12cr)
Acting 2(3cr)-C
Expository Writing(3cr)-B
Pre Calculus(3cr)-P
Intro to Macroeconomics(3cr)-B

-Total- (25cr) 3.05 GPA

I really hate my current school and I was hoping to transfer back to my native state of California. I understand my GPA is nowhere near what would be expected of me to transfer into any university of equal or greater reputation than my current one. I hear that CC students have precedence over 4 year students for transfer to the UC system. Given that I have essentially a full scholarship to CWRU would it be better to stay in CWRU for another year to increase my GPA or to use the CC route to enter UCB or UCSD?

I think you should cut your losses now, and embark upon a new path. The fact is this: you hate your school, academic success is less likely in an environment where you are unhappy, and changing route is not difficult.

I strongly recommend going to a CCC for 2 years and transferring to Berkeley or UCSD. If you got into CWRU with a full ride I have no doubt that you have the academic ability to pull a 4.0 at a CCC and get into all the UC's. Also, if money is an issue you, you could definitely work alonogside school while maintaining a good GPA--I know many students who have done that.

Ultimately, don't settle for less and the shorter path. Take a little longer so that you can be happy, have a degree from a great school, and keep many more doors open to you as a result from better grades.

Good luck!
