How does Pass/No Pass exactly work..

Does anyone know how Pass/No Pass exactly works toward your GPA? I want to take P/NP for a Statistics class.

So basically if you pass, what happens? It wouldnt bump up your gpa would it?

It depends on the school. Some might count it in your GPA, but I'm guessing that most do not. My CC didn't count P/NP classes towards GPA. However, I have heard that those transferring into a CSU such as SFSU would see SFSU count a "Pass" earned from CC as a "C" grade. I have no idea if it is true or not.

I've heard you should not take a major pre-req as P/NP, so if you need that statistics class as a pre-req for transferring into a specific major, take the letter grade instead. If you are taking it to fulfill the math (or some other) GE or for general interest, then P/NP should be OK.

I highly doubt CSU's count P/NP into your GPA. I know for a fact that the UC's don't do it, so i'm assuming that CSU's don't either. As long as you don't take a major pre req as P/NP, you will be fine.

I've heard the only schools, that count a Pass as a C, are some private schools.
