What UC's have TAP's?

How is someone eligible for a TAP?

UCLA has TAP and all the other UCs (except Berkeley) have TAG. Normally there is a minimum GPA you needed to have from high school to be eligible for the honors program at your CC (usually 3.0~3.2). Income has no effect on whether you are eligible for the program or not.

I believe most of the UCs have there own kind of TAP. Berkeley however is the only TAP program that you have to qualify on an income level, be a first generation college student, or be underrepresented student (minority). The reason for this is due to the fact that Berkeley TAP program is privately funded through the Jack Kent Cooke foundation that set these requirements.

I had no idea Berkeley even had some sort of TAP program. Do only some CCs have this?

Actually yea only some CCs have it I almost completely forgot about that, thanks for reminding me! Most of the CCs that are involved with this program are up north around the bay area. I believe there are 7 CCs from socal that are participants. These ECs typically have a higher rate of minority and low income students. But the program has been trying to expand to more schools in socal.

To Abce- I am not sure what they actually consider a minority and I am not to sure if you would still qualify if you were not low-income and not a first generation student.

To-jk There was a list on the internet but I can not find it now I will try to look. If I do remember correctly it was SMC, El Camino, East La, West La, Cerritos, Mt. Sac, and Pasadena city college.

SMC has it? I checked their scholars website and it only recognizes UCLA and some other schools but not Berkeley.

So Asians can't join Berkeley's TAP program if they're not a first generation college student or come from a low income household?

Actually a large amount of students that were are in the TAP program for Berkeley are actually Asian and several white students (including myself). I think the most important factors are income level and first generation college student.

Also TAP would not not be on the the Scholars program website because you do not need to be in an honors program at your CC to qualify for TAP at Berkeley like UCLA TAP. However many of the students I have known were in the honors program at their school and I have not met one TAP with a GPA below 3.5. When selecting students for the program they are looking for "highly motivated students" to be in the program also I believe they usually only take students that have at least a year left before they transfer (because the program is a counseling process as well). The way I found out about this program is just by talking to a Berkeley rep when they visited my college. I would suggest anyone interested to do the same.

TAP doesn't care about your income; you need a certain GPA to be eligible, which varies, and must apply before 20 or so units (varies).

I beg to differ as I had to submit several tax documents to qualify for the program. And the program says that it is for low to middle income, first generation and underrepresented students. I was told by my rep that I must meet the income level requirements to be eligible for the program. And for the 20 units I had about 30 before I joined the program. They told me as long as I had another year in CC I would be eligible to join.
