Question about using APs to fulfill prereqs

Hi, i just graduated from high school, i am planning to transfer to UCB or UCLA. Is it ok to skip a semester of community college for work? assuming that i will have enough units.
Also, i took the AP Calc AB in high school, i got a 4, and i will be using that to fulfill MATH 1A in Cal, do you guy think it will make me less competitive? a transfer counselor told me that the admissions will treat a 4 as a B, thus making me less competitive. Is it true?

Will you have about 15 transferable units come in from AP?

If so, you might be okay to take a semester off for work.

And I'm not sure about the Cal question, sorry.

Sounds OK -- just MAKE SURE to try and speak with a counselor or someone of that sort before you take the semester off. Just to be safe.

You CAN use AP credit to fulfill a prereq, but it is strongly advised that you do not because they prefer to see a letter grade to show your competency of the subject at the college level. For GEs, however, you shouldn't have any problem using AP credit.

You might have did well on an ap test, but a college course could dive into so much more material and specific areas

If you use the AP test to skip MATH 1A and you get an A in MATH 1B and MATH 1C, then they wont look down on you. If this is the case then you are obviously are good at math.

hey i got a question about AP credits. I'm gonna post it here cause starting another thread might be useless.

ok so i got some ap credits, should i report them to the c.c. i'm attending or should i just send the scores to the UCs i'm applying to?

It's a total of 16 units according to UCLA's website, so i don't know if my c.c. will give me the same amount of credits.

also i've been reading in other threads that if i use AP credits to fulfill GEs that i don't have to declare a major. what's this all about?

It's something that i read awhile ago in these forums. The user said that we don't need to report our major if we're using ap credits as transferable units to meet our requirements.
