Some quick questions, thanks anyone who read my thread

Hi everyone,

Im a student at Elac. I am an international student.
I will tranfer to CSU Longbeach or UCLA next Fall 2009.
Here is my case:
1/ In the first year, I majored in Computer Science (I really love IT). In semesters : Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, I took 51 units, I got a W, 2 B's (1 of them non-tranferable), and the rest are A's. My GPA was 3.88 (around, I didn't remember).
2/ Last Spring, as my father wish, I changed my major to Business. I took 12 units, 2 econ, 1 Statistics, and 1 English classes. Really bad, I got 2 A's Econ, and 2 D's Statistics and English. I was too busy to study because my father wants me to run his business. I really wanted to drop these two classes but I couldnt coz I am an international student. My GPA now is around 3.4
3/ I retake Statistics and English this Fall, I will get an A in Statistics for sure, and at least a B in English (I am always bad at English). One more class is Accounting which I believe that an A is not so hard.
4/ I have three more classes to take to fulfill my preq until next Fall.

And here are my questions:
1/ I dont have to tranfer the two D's that I got, is this True?
2/ What is the GPA that I must get to have a chance to CSU Longbeach and UCLA?

Thanks everyone.

I'm not 100% sure about how academic renewal works at ELAC, but at PCC, if you re-take those classes that you got D's in, then the D's will be discarded from your GPA. They probably do something similar at ELAC. So to answer your question: since you're re-taking the classes, then yes, it is true that you don't have to transfer the D's.

For CSULB, you have a great chance of getting in (even with a 3.4). As for UCLA, you will probably be applying to the Business Economics program, right? If this is the case, then you will have to reach to as close to a 4.0 as possible because this program is one of the most difficult programs to get into at UCLA. The average transfer GPA for Fall 2008 was 3.82 for Business Economics. Take a look: UCLA Undergrad Admissions: Profile of Admitted Transfer Students by Major, Fall 2008

Keep in mind though that international students usually have a harder time getting into UCs as transfers (or so I've heard).

You should also look at some other UCs-- you have a very competitive GPA. I would suggest also looking into USC.

Good luck!

You will not be happy if you let your dad pick a major that you don't enjoy

I think I will tranfer to CSULB, even if I have a chance for UCLA.
The money that I have to pay for UC's is too expensive, I bet that is over $40k per year, huge...
Hope that I will be at CSULB.
Thank you guys.
