Explaining an education gap

For those who are applying this year, is there an area where you can explain an education gap? (i.e. not taking any classes during a fall/spring semester) Is an education gap looked down upon at all?

I unfortunately had to drop all of my classes (before the 'W' deadline) and take this semester off because of a family issue, but I'll be right back on top of things for the upcoming winter and spring. (I'm actually really pumped up because of all the missed time.)

umm i've helped my brother with his application last year (he trasferred from ccc to ucla) I think there is a short section after you type in the two essays in which you can explain anything that is not included in your essay.. that's where my brother explained his education gap. it's like a short section for explanation.
but i don't know if the application changed this year..
    hope this help!
