limelight,

Residence requirements differ by department:

you must make sure to check all residence requirements as stated in the catalog:

Quote:
The College and each school with undergraduate programs establish their own degree requirements. These generally include a (1) unit requirement, which defines the total number of units to be completed, (2) scholarship requirement, which defines a minimum grade-point average, (3) residence requirement, which defines the amount of study that must be undertaken in residence at the UCLA campus, and (4) course requirements, which may include general education courses, reading and composition courses, foreign language courses, and core courses for the field of study. See the College and Schools section of this catalog for details on requirements set by the College and by each of the schools.
For econ, you will need to contact:

UCLA Department of Economics

For math, you will need to contact:

UCLA Department of Mathematics

Ask what the residence requirements are for pre-reqs.

guy with name about things touching,

You will almost certainly be paired with other transfers, but if you are concerned about age, consider going for a UCLA-owned apartment. It will generally attract an older crowd.

transfermeup,

I know very little about UCLADS. Consider going to the site:

UCLA School of Dentistry

and doing volunteering. There is always a need for more unpaid labor.

conn1ex,

Yeah, triples aren't the best, but they can work. You will not be likely to end up with freshmen, though.

cubman777,

Roommate selection generally has very little to do with major, and more to do with sleeping preferences, cleanliness, and a few other general characteristics.

oh c'mon. My name is a reference to pool... you know, billiards. You people disgust me!

Anyway. Are the buildings going to be full of transfers? It'd be nice if they didn't shove us all into one building, alienated from everyone else.

Thanks for coming back, your expertise is appreciated!

When do we figure out what our transferable courses count as at UCLA (and what classes we still need to take)?

guy whose round things are touching,

Actually, the site censored your name, so that explains the euphemism.

Anyway, what they did a few years back was have entire floors of transfers. Buildings are not "transfers-only" as a general rule, but I know that they stuck a lot of transfers into Hitch, one of the suites:

The suites are, as a rule, pretty nice. No A/C, but you get a bit more room and it's quiet.

UCLAri:

I have a medical condition that requires me my own room (baaad migraines). I included this information when I submitted my housing app. today. Thus, I requested either a university owned apartment with my own room (or studio), a residence hall with my own room, or a residence plaza with my own room. Any light you could shed on the particular experiences of living in each?

Also, are dorms/apartments/suites single-sex living arrangements or can they be co-ed?

heh,

You can do this whenever you want once they're in URSA, but it's usually easiest to do it at one of the orientations.

Sopheee,

Dorms are just, well... dorms, and I somehow doubt that they'll give you one to yourself (only RAs get that).

Plazas are dorms with connecting bathrooms like in some hotel rooms.

Suites are like apartments without kitchens. You may have a chance of getting one of those.

Apartments are fully-fledged apartments, and you may have a chance of one.

When do they appear in URSA? Once they receive transcripts?

EDIT: And thanks for the help - I'm sure a lot of us appreciate it quite a lot

cubman,

Plazas have AC. Only the suites do not.

If you want no A/C, try for Saxon or Hitch. I lived in Saxon, so some of my awesome might rub off on you.

Actually, LA isn't so bad during the times you're on-campus (spring, winter, and fall.) Only the first week of fall is a bit miserable.

As for the suites, I lived in Delta Terrace, which is okay. It's really quiet if you want that, but it's also kind of annoyingly laid out, IMO.
