Well, I'll tell you this about UCLA: My GPA is about 3.6, and UCLA took me...they look a bit more on the whole , and pay attention the essay more, so it's possible you'll get it..but then again, the film department at UCLA I hear is selective, so I don't know too much.

(I got into the poli sci dept)

iono about you guys, but on my housing app, I put doubles with both restroom preferences as my options then the rest were single hahahah. So yeah, I can't live in a triple, I'm an extrovert socially, but a serious introvert when studying and regarding my living arrangements.

Changing on-campus housing assignment

Hi:

I was offered a triple in Rieber Vista for fall 2009. I had put on my preferences that I wanted the University apartments, as I am a transfer student. I am wondering if you know anything about the likelihood of switching/changing a housing agreement. I am aware that I can submit a request; however, that is after I submit my intent to live in on-campus housing (which, at this point, I am not sure about), and if I do indeed submit my intent in hopes of changing assignments and am not allowed, I will have lost $300. Since you seem knowledgeable about UCLA, what do you think the likelihood of switching would be? I am thinking I'll take the risk... but obviously I don't really want to lose the $300 if I am S.O.L. and choose to live off-campus.

Did you get a UCLA scholarship? If so why not live on campus? I wanted a university apartment too because the scholarship would have paid for most of it, but if you live in the dorms you only have to pay $2000 more than the scholarship and that includes all of your food.

I too got in the rebier plazas, and it's like $4,000 more than I would have paid in an apartment. But I would spend $2,500 on food and gas if I commute. So why not?

Also, UCLA says they accept less than half of the requests to change housing.

I am a Political Science major and the major requires you to take four upper division classes in other social science, I want to take History and Anthropology classes however I notice that all of the upper division classes have major restrictions. As I have to take upper division classes in these fields is it possible to for me to enroll in these classes an d if so when can I enroll i.e second pass or do I need the instructors permission?

I'm interested in applying as a sociology major, but I don't know if I can fit in one pre-req (finite math). How much would that hurt my application, even if I'll being in TAP and all other pre-reqs are done?

also, if i were to apply undeclared, would that be a bad thing?

Transfer's are not allowed to apply as undeclared and without that pre-req your chances would be low for UCLA.

Hi I am currently a sophomore who is looking to transfer into UCLA for my junior year of college from Chapman University in Orange County. I am also a tv major at Chapman's film school which has become a highly ranked film school. I was wondering that if I am trying to transfer into UCLA's film school, a school where last year alone they only took 15 transfer students out of like 500, would coming from a good film school help my chances?..and what else would I need to increase my chances. If anyone knows anything about transferring into UCLA and also into their film school that would help so much! Thanks!

UCLAri,

Do you know where the transfers will be housed for the Fall 2010 admission phase? I was pretty shocked to see that a lot of them were housed in Hitch Suites and that Canyon place in recent years. Do you think they'll continue putting transfers in great housing (i.e. anywhere not a high-rise residential hall)?

I originally wanted to apply as a cognitive science major/philosophy minor. However, my current GPA is 3.5 because I'm carrying a D in a 5-credit math class. I plan to re-take this course over winter, and will probably succeed in replacing it with an "A." However, in the last two years at SMC I've incurred two W's in that very same course. Everything else on my transcript is beautiful (even the math class prerequisite to the one I currently have a "D" in): IGETC completed, only two "B" grades, everything else is an "A." But because I'm so scared about not getting into cognitive science (I don't have the last two requirements for the major: two calculus courses. I also have those two nasty W's on my transcript. I am currently carrying a D in an important math class for my major), I'm going to apply as a philosophy major and just transfer over to cognitive science/philosophy major/minor if I'm indeed admitted as a philosophy major (of which I have a very high chance of admission). I talked with the UCLA counselor who visits SMC, and she didn't say anything bad about my chances of getting in as cog. sci./phil. She just said to explain the W's and the "D" grade. Again, all I have to do is take two calculus classes at UCLA and I'll be ready to be Pre-Cognitive Science just like all the freshmen. What do you think? I absolutely *&#$-ing hate SMC (Santa Monica College). It has thrown me into a whirlwind of depression the last 3 years I've been there, and I do NOT want to have to continue another semester there if I'm not accepted to UCLA. The cognitive science acceptance rate is basically 50% (roughly 60 applied; 30 got in with a GPA of 3.45), but even though that's considered a good rate for an applicant, I could easily see them throwing me out with the lower half. I don't know what the "what-is-actually-probable" scale is at UCLA, but I'm scared crapless--probably because I do not want to be rejected and forced to continue at SMC more than anyone, but it is my absolute dream to attend UCLA and just hit the ground running with everything at least starting out perfect with admission to the cognitive science major (which it looks like I really could have a fair chance of getting into). Argh, I don't know. I'm currently working on my application, and I write very, very well and very pragmatically (my mind is going a mile-a-minute here, though, so don't really consider this my best writing). Thank you so much for you time.
