UC Application Question thread. Anything about the UC application

Let us ask questions here regarding anything about the UC applications.

I hope this thread will be helpful to anybody who happens to be applying this year.

Thank you.

Does the third (optional) personal statement factor into the 1000 word limit?

If not, is 220 words okay for the third one?

In the field where you need to list your activities and awards, what does "years involved" mean? It gives you a choice of 9th thru 12th. Does it actually mean grades?

Were SAT scores asked for in the UC application? It'd be nice to put my shexxy scores....

ksForBerkeley, 9th means freshman year of high school. There is an additional space labeled "years after highschool" which means what it says....

Also, I am trying to add two courses taken at UPenn, but the form won't let me enter "CL" in the pull down menu.

1) How does the UC know whether or not to calculate +/-s or not.

2) If I take a class at a different University with a unit value of 4, but my institution has the class with a unit value of 5, which value do I use?

@edmfanatiq - no sat scores for transfers, but if you really want to i'd put them (with the year you took them) in the additional comments box

@Cali Trumpet - 1) i've heard they calculate it the way your institution does, but how exactly they do that i don't know 2) you list the different university & enter the units you earned there

Oh, thanks babe. I didn't know UC's didn't check SAT scores for transferring. They only check AP testing scores....

how come the UC app doesn't have a term for Winter session?

If so, where do I put it under? Spring?

It does have a term for winter session. When you're putting in your school info it'll ask you if school is semester, semester w/ winter intercession or quarter.
