Philosophy Major Chances?

hey guys i am really curious to hear what you guys think of my chances to Cal, UCLA, and UCSD. I am only applying to these 3 colleges because I am a one-year transfer, and if i dont get into any of these this year, i'll just reapply next year.

GPA: 3.7(CURRENT), 3.86(after fall semester)
Major: Philosophy for all 3 colleges
EC: Phi Theta Kappa member, Boys and Girls Club volunteer (150+ hours by the end of spring), piano (10 years)
IGETC: completed
TAG/TAP: NONE
Pre-req's: - Cal: no courses articulated at my cc
- UCLA: Intro to Philosophy (assist.org says that i can pick one course out of intro to phil, intro to eastern religion, and intro to philosophy of religion). No other courses are articulated.
- UCSD: Intro to Logic will be taken in spring (if offered).

Do you think the lack of pre-req's completed will damage my chances or will they consider the fact that almost no courses are offered at my cc? Over the spring semester, I plan to take Intro to Logic and other philosophy courses that are not articulated, such as ethics and comparative religion. What do you guys think?

I thought the pre-req for UCSD was symbolic logic?

For UCLA you'll need intro to philo, intro to ethics, and intro to logic or symbolic logic.

Note: only three lower devision philo courses are eligible for transfer through petition.

After i visited UCSD last weekend, I'm hooked on the college! I too will wait until next year to apply as a philosophy major! I have yet to take any philosophy classes but I'm only an English away from completing IGETC. I thoroughly enjoyed Sociology, Cultural Anthropology, and Intro to Political Science; so any suggestions for a future philosophy major?

im a phil major also, and I think you have a shot but having missing a lot of pre reqs could hurt your chances.

They offer a lot of philosophy courses online from other college. I dont know what area you are from but Pierce College Offers Symbolic Logic, and Ethics that are 100% online so you never need to go to campus, and that would definitely help your chances

There are very limited amount of classes in winter session because of the budget, So most LA community colleges dont offer any philosophy courses outside of intro to phil, but in spring they will have it.

As long as you finish the IGETC and have above a 3.0 you should be able to TAG UCSD and get accepted...but take all the phil pre reqs Like ethics, symbolic logic, etc.

I too am applying to the same colleges for philosophy, and i'm in the same boat with the lack of prerequisites. I read somewhere though (some uc site) that it doesn't really matter, as long as you took all the philosophy courses you could.
I think you will be fine. Especially to UCSD, where you can get a TAG.

Also, have you seen statfinder.com? it does a better job at chancing you than a forum like this.
