I got to a community college. I will have 60 transferable units for the UC system completed by spring including the 1 math course and 2 english courses. i am applying to UCLA, UCB, UCD, and UCSD as an economics major, i have a ton of ECs, work experience and good personals statements (8/10) and a 3.8 gpa

I will not have completed the two calculus courses by spring '10.

i know i will be admitted to UCD and UCSD as an econ major and i know i will NOT be admitted to UCLA and UCB as an econ major because i have not completed a year of calc

On the application i selected pre-economics, what are the chances that i will be accepted to the pre-economics major at UCB and UCLA?

econ is pre-econ. you won't get in to either school.

No chance at all. I know it sounds harsh but I don't even get why any UC would accept anyone without at least a semester of calculus done. Most econ majors take intermediate econ or microecon/macroecon theory their junior year after they transfer and usually calculus is are the pre-reqs. So even if you do transfer, you kinda screwed still. Can't start upper division classes without that calculus.

UCSD and Davis are good schools though. But if you have your heart set on Cal or LA you will want to schedule Calc II for spring 10 (assuming you're in I right now or have taken it before spr. 10) and put that on your application.

ok thanks guys. is there any chance that i will be accepted to the schools, but i will not be able to start my upper division classes until i finish calc at ucla, ucb.

On the website it says that students will be regarded as pre-economics and NOT Economics until they finish Calc I, Calc II, micro/macro, stats. so couldnt i be regarded as a pre-economic student without calc I, II??

those are both competitive programs, ucla econ will automatically reject you for not having ALL pre reqs completed. I would assume the same of UCB, might save yourself 120 dollars and not apply at those two until next year or find a way to catch up on your math classes.

Okay, In your situation, If you want to go to berkeley, the MOST EASIEST way to get into econ is to apply to a different major under the college of letters and sciences and just switch once you get there. Its that easy.

it's really not that easy, but that would be a more risky way of doing it.

Have you completed the prerequisite for another major? but be weary...

if you apply to a cake major like linguistics but have all the prereqs for econ, admissions will see through your plan and it will not look good. (assuming that you want to take that route)
