What else do we need to do?

Submited SIR, applied for housing, applied for a BOL account...is there anything I'm forgetting to do? When are we supposed to start applying for loans? When do we choose our courses? Do we sign up for work study now or later on after school starts?

this is a pretty comprehensive list of all you need to do. If you submitted your FAFSA on time, you should be set as far as finanacial aid goes. And I think the freshmen should be getting their financial aid statements soon (if not already), which will list all the loans and work study you will be offered.

You choose your courses at orientation, which you will be receiving some mail about shortly. Sign up for the earliest one possible for the best selection of courses.

Oh and as far as getting a job for work study, you are on your own for that (although the work study office can help you I believe), and I think you need to get a job by the beginning of winter quarter or something. You get a ridiculous amount of time in any case. Almost every job on campus accepts work study (hell, who wouldn't - the government pays half your salary)

kfc, do you have a list of helpful websites that we can use to maybe have a headstart on planning classes

to my understanding, there are very very few students who actually "work" in the hospital. A lot volunteer... but without medical training, there is no job that you will be hired for. I know students with work study who work in the Ashe (student health) Center in the labs and as clinical assistants and such. They wouldn't take me last year because I don't have work study (having work study is definitely an advantage).

as far as planning classes, check out the department website for your major to see which classes you have to take. Once the fall schedule is up with professor names, start making a schedule on the MyUCLA class planner, and use www.bruinwalk.com to check out professor reviews.
A note about bruinwalk.com however... take the reviews with a grain of salt - they are almost always very biased by the students who did either very well or very poorly in a class.

chances are, you're gonna end up picking GE's, so check out the list of GE classes:

http://www.registrar.ucla.edu/GE/

as well as the GE clusters:

http://www.college.ucla.edu/ge/clusters/

it might be a bit early, but you can go to MyUCLA and click on class planner and make out your schedule, although most of the scheduling is probably still tentative and you probably won't get your first choice classes. if the professor is listed, go on bruinwalk.com (what icarus said). but at least see if the class is offered in the fall and click on the class description to find out what it's about. having that knowledge before you go to orientation will be valuable enough.
