I think I'm going to go with the 14 meals per week plan. No more, no less.

yeah im also thinking about getting the 14 meals plan (value plan i think they call it)

ready2boutofhs, are you referring to the block package? 150 meals per semester + $500 flex, not 105 right?

The problem with the 14 meal plan or any of the "value meal plans" is that you have to use them at the designated times (breakfast, lunch, dinner on a given day) or you lose the meal.

Block plans are by far best; you purchase X amount of meals and can use them for any meal, any day, any time during the semester. This will give you the flexibility to choose when to eat on campus and when not to. On the value meal plans if you decide to eat a given meal off campus, you have lost that meal....but still paid for it.

If you are not a regular breakfast eater, go for the lower number of meals and add money to flex. You will find that many people opt for the higher number block (150) and are giving away meals to friends at the end of the semester to use them before they lose them.

You will find that at the beginning of the school year there are so many opportunities for free meals between fraternity and sorority rush parties to OOS Student Assn parties to the events from WOW (the first week or so of school) that you won't be using your meal plan as much as you would think.

My recommendation is the 105 meal block with $500 dining dollars then see how it works and plan the second semester accordingly.

I agree with eadad. My daughter used the 105 meal block with $500 dining dollars her first semester last year. For second semester she nor any of her buds bought a dining plan and they make lunch and dinner a more social event on Franklin St. and it costs no more . The dining dollars carry over to second semester even if you don't buy a meal plan.

Actually, Dining Flex carries over from the fall semester only if you purchase a spring meal plan according to the web site. We purchased $500. for my D last year and had to work hard to spend it all by the time she moved out this week.

mmm54

My daughter's experience last year was that almost $300 carried over to Spring semester without the purchase of a meal plan. I don't know what the website said then as opposed to now or whether there was a policy change for this year but I know she carried it over and used it for coffee and bagels, etc. as well as using it to buy meals for prospective students who overnighted with her during the spring semester. I agree with mmm54 that as easily as kids can burn through $500 in real money it is hard to spend $500 in dining flex dollars.

I had seven a week last year and it worked very well. Let me tell you something: when you first arrive the food is incredible. When you get towards the end of the year, the food starts to deteriorate significantly. When you only have a few meals per week, you can always go somewhere else with your friends. Most people do end up with way too many meals at the end of the semester.
