Chance Me!

Hey, I am an international student studying CIE A Levels.
I am planning to apply for PPE at Oxford and for Philosophy and Economics at LSE and UCL.
My IGCSE Grades were: 6A*'s and 1A
My A Level subjects are: Economics, History, Maths, Accounting and English (AS).
My predicted scores will be A*A*A*A*a^

Do you think I'll be able to get in?

Depends on your interview/admission test for Oxford.

Should be fine for LSE and UCL if your personal statement is strong.

SpawnofDescartes: Thanks! But I have one more question. I have not studied either philosophy or politics as individual subjects during school. Although, I am reading around these subject areas to prep for my interview, do you think they would ask specific questions?

They would probably ask you very general questions to see how your thought process and logicial thinking is, but nothing specific.

I think you have a good shot. Get those predicted grades and work on the things others have said. Economics and History give you a good grounding for politics, and having such a wide diversity of subjects gives you a good grounding for philosophy. (Does ANYBODY do philosophy at A-level? Is there such a thing?)

If you check on the course descriptions on the website it lists required and preferred courses for each subject; for PPE they just want you to have done some previous writing classes.

Chancing for Oxford is nearly futile: you have the numbers to make the cut, but lots of people who have those numbers fall at the PS, more fall at the various aptitude tests in different subjects, and still more fall at interviews. An awful lot of it boils down to whether they think that the tutorial system will suit you.

PPE is exceptionally competitive. A* grades alone will not get you in. You will need to evidence originality in your statement and during your interview. At my college, they only accepted 5 PPE students this year, and 115 applied.

I have a doubt! One of my predicted grades has fallen to an A even though I scored an a^ (91) in my AS Levels. Will this affect my chances severely?

I don't think that will affect your chances much at all, since if I understand correctly you are also predicted to get three or four grades at A*.

You need to worry more about your personal statement and interview.
