Do you have to be in the IB program to go to uni in England?

I'm currently finishing up my sophomore (10th grade) year of high school in the US and currently I am in the Pre-IB program (which is like the intro to IB for 9th and 10th graders). I'm am currently enrolled for AP classes next year instead of doing IB and getting my IB Diploma. However, I have recently become interested in possibly studying in England and I've been wondering if it is necessary to be in the IB program in order to go to a university in England. I would hope to be studying Acting/Dramatic Arts/Whatever you want to call it. I think it might be too late to switch to the IB program if it is necessary but I would love to know all the same.

Thanks!

No you do not need to.

Since you want to study dramatic art, check out the requirements of the universities you're interested in.

Well considering only a few schools over here are IB schools, I think you'll be fine. I have heard however, that it might be easier if you're hoping to stidy in the UK as it's more standardised. But I'm not sure

No, definitely not! UK unis will probably disregard your GPA as they prefer standardized tests. However, SAT IIs and/or APs are fine instead of IB. I would advise you to look up the requirements and perhaps email a few unis to ask because it sounds like you may be look for a course where an audition may be required (and/or acting/drama experience), which is a little outside of the usual "don't mention ECs" advice I usually dole out on this board. They won't consider irrelevant scores/grades. eg no-one will care about AP calculus if you intend to apply for drama.

cynicalsugar,

I think you need to start RIGHT NOW looking at colleges, universities, and other schools in the UK to start thinking about which ones you might be aiming for, and contacting them to find out what their requirements are.

Folks studying theatre often have different requirements from everyone else, so make sure you specifically tell people that is what you are interested in.

Don't forget to check out the schools of the Conservatoire for Dance and Drama, and other similar schools that specialize in the performing arts. At least some of these base their admission ENTIRELY on audition, and don't have ANY academic requirements at all.

Here's a useful link (I hope): The Conference of Drama Schools - Links to Member Schools - please click on the name of the school (blue text) you want to visit

Nobody cares about SATs in the UK, but APs are fine.

That said, drama schools are insane and will probs require you to provide a portfolio or somesuch. Maybe they dont even care about grades

You said you are interested in dramatic arts. The admission procedure for these courses is different and an audition is required. Contact the universities concerned, i.e. RADA, LAMBA etc.
