Cars for Freshman year

We've visited many schools and most of them either prohibit or strongly discourage having a car on campus the first year. Is this true of UA? If not, how hard is it to find parking? Thanks!

Freshmen are allowed to have cars on campus. You have to purchase a permit.

Your parking lot is determined by your dorm location.

Once residence kids are parked, they don't typically move their cars much at all during the day time. they don't drive to class. Kids walk to class, take the Crimson Ride to class, or bike to class. Residence kids don't drive from class to class.

Cars for resident students are often only used on weekends or nights.

My kids have had cars on campus, and they'll go days/weeks without driving them.

Our D (freshman w/car) - Ridgecrest South-covered parking garage (a nice feature) does take her vehicle out at least once daily for off campus practice and most often will drive on-campus for the other on-campus practice daily. She will typically also drive off campus a couple other times a week as she enjoys the freedom the car allows her to go for supplemental groceries, personal shopping, out to eat, etc. She additionally drove off campus to mentor at a middle school last semester one afternoon a week along with driving to several evening events off campus related to other program involvements. With all her on/off campus driving she has only had one time so far this year that once in the parking garage the full sign came on so she had to exit and park in the Ferg garage…said it was no big deal. I have read on CC that the parking at Lakeside can be pretty limited so you may want to consider that with dorm choice if bringing a vehicle. She has used the Crimson Ride for some evening events and afternoon practices on campus which she has mentioned works out fine.
