National Merit/National Hispanic Scholarship

Do either of these scholarships apply to transfers? I was a National Merit Scholar as well as a National Hispanic Scholar in high school, but right now I'm looking to transfer from my local community college. Does Alabama have any scholarships for transfers?

UA's NMF and NHS scholarships are for incoming freshmen only.

Here's the link for transfer students. Some aren't for CC's from other states.

I remember reading your other thread. You might also try Miss St. They would probably give you more.

I don't know how much you need, but it's hard to find much as a transfer student. I don't know of one college that gives merit money to a NMF transfer from a CC. The reason this happens is because colleges help their rankings by bringing in the best crop of freshmen. That's why the big money if offered for incoming freshmen.

What Calif schools are you considering...they probably will be your best financial bet since the cost will be lower if you go to a state school.

Ooops...

For some reason, I thought you were from Calif. LOL (I so need to use a cheat sheet to keep people straight!!! )

Can you pay full freight for college, or will you be needing a lot of F/A? It's very hard to find colleges that give significant merit money to transfers. I think Miss St is the only one that I know that will at least give some OOS transfer students in-state tuition rate.

I am able to pay full freight if needed (have some loans and a couple outside scholarships) but any help from the school (whichever one that may be) would be excellent.

Ok...

Well, along with some "in state" choices, I'm thinking that your better choices are state schools that don't charge a lot for OOS students.

UA is one of the lowest flagship schools for OOS students. There are cheaper ones, but they're lower ranking.

Have you visited UA? If not, can you?

Have you looked thru the website? have you done the virtual tour?
