My son is, but has heard conflicting stories. What are your recommendations?
Problems, concerns with this school?

How intense is the program?
How much time do the children dedicate to the school?

When my daughter was in the process of making her final decision, I made a chart listing all the classes an MT student takes at UArts organized by semester with the number of credits and number of class hours as stated in the website curriculum page. If you are interested in it, send me an email (not a PM) and I'll get it to you as a Word file attachment. In addition to the class/studio hours, all of my daughter's friends who are in BFA programs in acting or MT tell us that there is also a good bit of out of class time required. The classes add up to 25.5 hours minimum the first semester so I bet that including out of class time you are looking at 40 - 50 hour weeks minimum not including rehearsals. But it's all good - my daughter sat in on classes last Friday and this past Monday, came home absolutely enthralled and has now announced that she is done with high school, intends to cut as many days as possible without hurting her GPA and send her H.S. assignments in by mail and instead is going to hang out with UArts students! Yeesh, it's going to be a long 6 weeks to the end of her senior year.

parent things

I started this thread a year ago -- wow how time flies! I (as well as certainly the other UARTS parent posters) would be happy to answer parent questions privately or otherwise about "parent" issues.

Best to email me by going to the link where my email is listed.

I know exactly what you mean. I can't believe my daughter's first year will be done in 3 weeks. It has flown by so fast - a sure indication of just how busy and full her life at UArts is. It was just yesterday, figuratively, that I was moving her into Spruce and just yesterday, literally, that I moved her and a room mate into an apartment (a process I hope not to repeat for a couple of years at least ).

Let me reiterate nytheatermom's offer. Feel free to post, pm or email any questions you may have from a parent's perspective. Because I live just outside of Philly and my office is located a block from UArts, I can also offer some additional perspectives on city life etc.
