UArts E-mail, Rooming, and Important Info.

I know were suppose to be receiving our rooming assignments soon. I have set up my UArts email account, but now when I log on to check it it comes up as "an error has occured". I have heard that the program UArts uses is not really "Internet Explorer" friendly. I'm not sure what type of Internet UArts uses. So I was wondering if anyone else had this problem, or if there was something I can do so I can check my email, and all the important info they are sending.

UArts system is designed to work best with Safari or Firefox as your browser. All of the Macbooks students must get use Safari which is available for both the Mac OS and Windows. I would suggest downloading Safari and using it as your browser to access UArts' web resources.

In addition, UArts is in the process of migrating access to its web resources to a new system. Go to https://my.uarts.edu/wiki/display/vpn/Home for more info.

On a related topic, anyone have suggestions or cautions on banks for students?

Wachovia Bank has a branch on Broad St, about half a block up from the Terra Building (they had a fire there and construction is being done but it is open for business). I know that they have programs designed for students and actually have bank reps whose job it is to provide guidance to students on handling their financial matters. My office and both my kids use Wachovia and we have been pleased with the service. There are also other banks right in the area such as Commerce Bank at Broad and Sansom.

Thanks! We are getting very excited for the move. Anxiously awaiting housing info--guess that comes next week. Registering for classes yesterday made it seem pretty real!

The housing info should be out soon. Once you get it, send me a PM and I'll be glad to give you some additional tips to make the day go smoothly.

Such an exciting time. It's hard for me to believe my D will be a junior this year and I was getting advice from Michael then, LOL. Thank you Michael for all your help.

The time really has flown by. I can't believe my daughter and I are now discussing her post graduation plans with real specificity! BTW, I was walking to dinner with my daughter last week and our 2 daughters bumped into each other near the Terra Building. Yours appears to be enjoying her summer in Phila.

Pine??

Just found out that my son will be living in Pine. Still waiting to hear about how many roommates. Anybody know anything about Pine?
Thanks!

Pine is located at 15th and Pine, about 3 1/2 blocks from the Terra Building (where freshmen MTs spend most of their time), 1 block from Hamilton Hall (administrative offices for the University) and 2 blocks from the Arts Bank (another Building MT's spend time in). UArts residential life office is located at the lobby level. It's location is convenient walking distance from restaurants, shopping etc. I've never been in the apartments there but from what I understand they are mostly studios with some suites/1 bedrooms. Students I've spoken to have not voiced any complaints about it. There is a description of each dorm on UArts website that may be of further interest. The dorms are all getting new furniture for the upcoming school year which should be nice.

Pine Hall

Hello,

I haven't been on in a while but my son is rooming in Pine. The pictures look nice but we heard that the elevator is really small. We were also told that all of the furniture is new and that they may have window a/c units for all of the dorms. He only has one definite room mate and 1 temporary who might not even be there during move in.

I happened to be wandering around UArts neighborhood this evening and noticed that window air conditioners are being installed in the Spruce dorm. About 2/3 of the building appears to be done and you can see the units installed in the windows. What a relief that will be in August and the first half of September as well as in late April and May.
