REJECTED Stanford EA

I got rejected from Stanford. I didn't even get deferred!

My Stats:

1600 SAT I
800 MathIIC/780Chem/800 Writing
4.54 GPA/ 4.0 UW
Rank 1/433
ECs: Captain of varsity soccer team, Newspaper editor, President and founder of philosophy club, Vice president of science club, intern for state senator, volunteer work for local wildlife habitat

After getting REJECTED early action from Stanford and not even deferred, I have lost all confidence in the college admission process. I didn't even apply to Berkeley and now I'm scared that I don't have any solid safeties. Can I still mail an application to Berkeley late and have them consider it? I live in New Jersey and I had no idea Berkeley's application was already due. Most colleges have January 1st deadlines.

If I end up going to Berkeley I will be sure to yell STANFORD SUCKS with all my might!!! Who the hell do they accept anyway?!

Did you tell off the ad-com board in your essay or something?

But yeah stuff like that happens. Last year I knew a person with similar stats who got rejected during Early Action. Sometimes they are just looking for a person to fill a certain niche.

Whoa, mama. Great stats there. Essays and recs are probably what did it.

Too late for Berkeley. Go Ivy.

Man, I slaved on those essays. I polished them until they were shinier than the relection of a fluorescent lamp on a bald guy's head! I gave my rec letters to teachers who really liked me.

Anyway, why is Berkeley's application due so early?! Why isn't it January 1st like all the other colleges?

Because it's a heavily applied to UC.

As for your rejection, my condolences.

Stanford rejects 60% or so of all peole with 1600s. They could probably fill their entire class with people who have 1600s, but sometimes the admissions office gets screwy and rejects highly qualified people in favor of other more eccentric applicants. It's their way of saying "nobody, not even Jesus is guaranteed admission." I know it sucks but that's life. If you apply to Harvard, Yale, and Princeton there is no doubt in my mind you will be admitted to at least one. Best of luck.

oh, you mean Stanfurd??

Um, Stanfurd is a very hard school to understand. I got rejected there regular decision this past year, but I also got into Yale. (But I chose Berkeley, where it ROCCCKKKKKSSSS...goddamn, I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SCHOOL). So I don't know. I think the whole admission process is a crapshoot anyway. You have great grades and great stats...you'll go far. Don't worry about Stanfurd. Oski always says "F--- Stanfurd"!!

Best of luck with the rest of the college apps!

Gutrade, getting rejected from one top school doesn't mean you're going to get rejected by all and I'm sure you will have a good selection of great schools to make a choice from.

However, I'd like to use you as Exhibit A that the worst dumb***** thing you can say to someone on CC is "You're in!" Also the inane futility of all the What Are My Chances questions and threads.

The HYPSM schools are the HYPSM schools for a reason...just getting outside the zone of those five schools improves your odds a lot.

You also might want to read the thread in the Parents Forum about what happened to all those who were rejected/deferred by their EA/ED school last year: virutally all of them had great outcomes. Hang in there.

Btw, the process is not arbitrary but neither is it determnistic.

And, sorry, Berkeley's deadline is dead dead dead. They get too many apps.

UBermensch, there are only around 1200 single-sitting 1600's a year, maybe 2000 dual-sitting 1600's...that would maybe fill Harvard and half of Yale. I have the stats buried somewhere.

Totally. Good knowledge.

Which is totally why the College Board should raise the ceiling again. 1600 is such a common phenomenom nowadays. RAISE THE CEILING COLLEGE BOARD YOU GUYS SUCK

BTW, sorry u didn't get into ur school of choice gutrade. But don't worry, I think finding a school that fits your personality will be just as important, because you will be recognized for your talent no matter what school you go to.

Uhhh...that's precisely what they are doing with the new SAT. The ceiling is 2400.

Whenever your stats are good, and you get rejected, I'd have to say it was the essays or recs. Maybe they were good, but maybe you did not have what they were looking for. All UC apps were due Nov 30, not just Berkeley

I think California1600 is referring to making the SAT curve harsher so that less people get a perfect score.
