I'm wondering how realistic it is to become fluent in more than one language while at Cal, starting from scratch or some proficiency (like a level 2 or 3). It probably relies on major but even with a flexible L & S major, it seems pretty difficult.

I have a question about the "backstabbing" I've heard about in the MCB majors. Is this really true? Is it really that brutal?

I'm just a FPF student right now, and I'm trying to find potential majors. I've currently narrowed it down to a biological science (pre-med) goal or something in CS or even EECS if I could make the switch. I'm in L&S right now. Can I even make the switch from L&S to CoE? If I say I scored a 4 on my AP Calc test and a 5 on my AP Bio test, with the fact that I'm not as confident, should I make the jump? or will EECS be just hell?

Thanks for those who reply =]

please someone help me...anyone

MY FIRST SEMESTER AT CAL..does this scheduel look ok????? hellllp

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

hi everyone. so i am a spring admit freshman at cal (yey!) and i wanted to see if these classes made sense for next spring semester. So i am an mcb premed...except my heart isnt really set on mcb and i was thinking of going into maybe public health or microbio later...
i have taken a lot of breadth req at community college during the fall...i only have like 2/3 left
ok
so i was thinking
SPRING FIRST FRESHMAN SEMESTER:
now i am not sure between MATH1A and MATH 16A because mcb req MATH1A..but i am not sure if i even want to do mcb. also looking at the math1A times they interfer with the chem 1A times so i can either wait and take math 1A later or just take 16A

assuming i just wait and take math 1A in fall of 09 this is how it will go

SPRING FIRST FRESHMAN SEMESTER:
CHEM 1A/LAB
ENGLISH R1B
BIO 1B/ LAB/DISC ( can i take 1b before 1A...i heard 1A is harder...true?)
FRESHMAN SEMINAR

SUMMER FRESHMAN YEAR:
CHEM 3A/L

SOPHMORE YEAR FALL:
MATH 1A
BIO 1A/L
PHYSICS 08A
BREADTH

SOPHMORE YEAR SPRING:
MATH 1B
CHEM 1B
PHYSICS 08B
BREADTH

or i could just do
FRESHMAN:
math16a
chem 1a
r1b
semenars

FRESHMAN SUMMER
chem 3a/l

SOPHMORE FALL..............this seems like overkill...all sci classes and math
math 16b
bio 1b/l
chem 3b
physics 8a

SOPHMORE SPRING
bio 1a/l
physics 8b
2 breadth

does the order of which i am taking these classes make sense?
should i just take 16A and forget mcb...and do i diff science?
does any semester look like overload?
is there anyway to avoid taking summer classes?

THANK YOU SO MUCH>....I WILL BE VERY APPRECIATIVE OF ANY REPLIES

CS in L&S

Hey guys, I was wondering if Computer Science in L&S is a capped/impacted major? Are there certain GPA requirements for it?

According to this website:
General Catalog - Computer Science (Letters & Science)
CS "is also extremely competitive; fewer than half of the juniors who apply are admitted, and the others must choose another major."

However, I've also heard that it is no longer an impacted major, and it's not listed on the capped majors here:
L&S Major - Capped Majors

But it is listed as a capped major here: L&S Advisory, The College of Letters and Science, UC Berkeley

Anyone care to shed some light on this?

It's uncapped. They just didn't get around to updating some of the pages.

For IAMABEAR: it seems like u don't like math but if u take 16 series u better be sure don't want to do MCB unless there is a path that 16 series is allowed. Also, u don't have to take Bio1B or physics 8 so early (u don't need physics to declare). So yeah, don't have to cram things in. I personally like math so iono if i should persuade u to take 1A and have u hate me haha

Can you double-major in, say, electrical engineering and physics at Cal and, for that matter, the other UCs? And what is the status of aerospace engineering at UCB?

tmonster6: If you're thinking in terms of the engineering program at Cal, then it definitely is worth the transfer. You can learn more about Cal's engineering program here: Home — UC Berkeley College of Engineering

I really can't find info on CC to this at all-- but if i apply to the Chemistry under the College of Chemistry, does it lower my chances of admission?

Also, is it hard to transfer from Chemistry from L&S into CoC? What about the other way around?
