| If I initially chose a single sex floor for my housing arrangement, is there any way that I can change to a co-ed floor? I am Unit 2 Double if that helps. |

| Call housing office and petition a housing change. You may still have a chance. Once school starts, there is a moratorium on moving and its a drag to do that after you've moved in. |

| Hi! I'm hoping to get into Cal. I'm officially a junior in high school now. I have good grades, but I'm seriously lacking in extracurricular activities. My parents never went to college and I've never really been encouraged to do ECs. No one ever told me that ECs were important until recently... *sigh*
Does Cal care more about how long you've been doing ECs or how well you do them? I plan to make this summer meaningful (I found a place to volunteer that's not too far away). I want to work on building my self-confidence. I don't want to hear a bunch of "You're never going to get in." I'd like to believe that I still have a chance. Please give me advice. Because obviously I'm running out of time.

| don't do things other than school because you want to go to college, do things that you love...i never consider what i did outside of school as extracurricular, but as CO-curricular....i LOVED playing football, being in clubs, organizing...w/e...if you do things you love, you can get that across in your essay...that's what's most important: being not only smart, but passionate, a leader, and a happy person. |

| I didn't do any ECs at all until my Junior year of high school, and I was still able to get into EECS, which is one of the hardest (if not the hardest) major to get into at Berkeley. It's not the end of the world if you haven't started doing any ECs yet, but ECs and your essays are 2 very important parts of your application.
My parents also never went to college and my older brother isn't exactly academically motivated. So, I didn't know anything about the college process and how important ECs were until late Sophmore year. I joined some clubs Junior year and participated in some science/engineering related activities, and I continued to do the same my Senior year but I also tried to show leadership by becoming President of one club and Vice-President of another. |

| To be truthful, I don't think Berkeley cares that much about either. I think if you're in a few activities (clubs and such), and have a few leadership positions (a benefit but not a must) then you're good to go. They focus a lot on GPA and SATs and less on ECs, at least relative to the privates. Junior year is not the optimal time to start on ECs, but it's certainly workable. |

| Muller's class is a good GE for physical science.
However, I would definitely recommend the physical science GE I took, Astro C12/EPS C12, with Prof. Marcy and Prof. Manga, which is offered in the Spring. That class was really great. |

| I've heard of all kinds of people taking that class. The people I talked to who took the class tend to be underclassmen. It's a good class to take if you want to get the physical sciences breadth requirement out of the way, but if you're thinking about anything bio-related, chem-related, physics-related, or engineering-related, you'll probably need to take the physics 7 or 8 series. |
