helloduh: Decent GPA, very good SAT scores, decent ECs. I'd say ~60% chance.

tomo88: Your grades/rank looks good. SAT score is slightly low for internationals. ECs are pretty good. I'd say ~30% chance.

Weighted UC GPA: 4.29, (counting community college courses = 4.35, not sure if they do that though)

Weighted GPA: Not sure, but its a tad lower than my Weighted UC GPA

Unweighted = 3.96

California Resident
Competitive Public School
Rank:Not sure, but atleast top 10%

SAT1: 2110 ( 790 M / 650 CR / 670 W )
ACT:34 ( 31 English / 36 Math / 35 Reading / 35 Science)
SATII: Math2c = 790 Chem = 780
APs: Calc BC = 5, Chem = 5

College: College of Engineering

Senior Year Courseload
AP Government / Econ
Physics H
AP CS
British Literature
AP Stats

ECs(You guys make me feel very bad about this one :O)
Volunteering 300+ hours (about 2/3rds is in tutoring math & science, rest is in hospital work)
Random clubs( floating point club, rubiks cube club among other clubs, no leadership positions so it's probably useless)

Significant accomplishments in a specific field
National Merit Semifinalist

Trying to major in EECS or Chem Engineering, are my chances bad for any of them given my horrible ECs?

They don't really count community college courses into your GPA, and it's not possible for those courses to raise your GPA to a 4.35 because even an A+ at a CC course should count as either a 4.0 or 4.33.

Your GPA is pretty high and your SAT is decent. The high math score helps. SAT IIs are good. ECs are a bit weak. I would say ~50% for Engineering, ~30% for EECS, and ~65% for ChemE (which is in the College of Chemistry).

OOS acceptance rate

Hi--

This might be covered elsewhere, so please excuse my ignorance. I know that roughly 7% of the student population at Berkeley is from out of state, but does anyone know how many from out of state apply so you can figure out the OOS acceptance rate? Just wondering.

^^ The OOS acceptance rate is 20% (despite the fact that OOS = self-selective).

dietcoke14: You need to calculate your UC GPA yourself. To do this, go here:

http://www.californiacolleges.edu/ad...calculator.asp

As it stands, I'd say Berkeley's a reach - strong ACT, and average GPA, SAT IIs, ECs, and honors/awards. Being OOS makes it much more difficult. You do have a good shot, though.

^^ Did you not look at this thread at all? Your GPA is average for Berkeley (I've said this multiple times before). It by no means is average on an absolute scale.

Sorry, didn't mean to be snappy. At any rate, I wasn't talking about UC GPA or weighted GPA. I was talking about UW GPA. Also, it'd be a good idea to calculate your UC GPA and W GPA when you post chances threads/posts -- it helps others to assess your chances.

No it's not. The average unweighted GPA is around a 3.8.

By asking me that question you are assuming I am in college.

vicissitudes: since you are knowledgeable about all this cal stuff i assumed that you were. but i guess you are either: 1. a current student, 2. an alumni, 3. faculty, 4. a faculty alumni. Another guess is that you are/were an engineering student. just wanna confirm my curiosity. haha
