NHS member
Red cross club member
Loc. community volunteer
as you may notice, its not very long, but its partly my fault since i dont keep log of my hours [i enjoy volunteering so much that i beleive that keeping logs of how much i've volunteered defeats the purpose of doing so without rewards ( :]
Essay: uses extended metaphor comparing self to universe
small quirks about myself: very knowledgable with regards to computer diagnosis and repair, basic knowledge of .net and c++ (haven't have time to study), i dont play sports (though i am proficient with badminton), from a family of low-income
and on a side note i got a letter asking to schedule an interview for a regent scholarship, what does that mean for me as i'm confused about this? |

| fiona_: being an international will make Berkeley a reach, especially since your GPA is weak (assuming you calculated it correctly) and you're applying to engineering, even though your scores are excellent.
palmer69: your GPA is strong, though your SAT isn't. Since you're OOS, I'd say it's a reach.
compSciBeast: strong GPA/SAT, good ECs (though they're a bit spread out), good honors/awards. If you're EECS, I'd say slight reach to high match (~50-60%).
gekkgad: strong GPA, good ECs. Your SAT is slightly weak, but the first-gen, low-income immigrant status will help. I'd say high match. Edit: if you've gotten a Regents' and Chancellor's invite, then you've pretty much been accepted. Congrats! =) |

| I guess I'm just curious. I'll know in a couple weeks though, but eh!
UC GPA: 4.25 (if I calculated it right)
Unweighted: 3.95
Weighted: 4.38
California resident
9 AP tests taken, four 5's, five 4's
5 community college semesters taken (to see if I'm interested in my major), all A's
Varsity waterpolo and swimming
Some volunteering (youth basketball and water polo), but nothing much.
SAT: 800 Math, 720 Writing, 690 Reading
ACT: 34
SAT II: Physics 700, Literature 700, Math lvl 2 800
I graduated in 2007, worked over the summer, then paid to travel solo to China for 3 and a half months learning Chinese. I'm already solid in Chinese, but I just bought another ticket to go back for another 3 months next month. I think I had a pretty good "experience" essay. I'm hoping this is what puts me over the top. I already heard back from Irvine with Regent's. Should I have a good chance with Berkeley?
Thanks for any feedback you guys, I appreciate it. |

| EKS: your ECs are strong, though your GPA and scores are a bit weak. First-gen status may help. I'd say reach, slight reach (50-50) if your essays were great. |

Academic:
Rank: 1/487
SAT: 2220 (700 CR 730 M 790 W)
SAT II: Math Level 2 720, Literature 700
W GPA: 4.26
UW GPA: 4.0
Taken only 6 AP classes from junior and senior year, but only around 7/8 are even offered at my school. I was going to take French 4 AP (that would be the maximum AP load), but it was the same period as Statistics so I couldn't; instead I'm taking French 4 independent studies
Senior year schedule:
Wind Ensemble, Statistics AP, English Literature AP, Government/Economics AP, French 4, Physics, Journalism
ECs:
-Wind Ensemble (advanced band, 4 years), first chair flute for three years, section leader for three years. Played piccolo for a year. Also band Vice President
-California Scholarship Federation 100% Life Member (3 years) and currently President
-Literary Society (4 years), currently President. We also make a literary magazine that wins awards from Columbia University and this year I am editor-in-chief of it.
-National Honors Society (2 years), currently Publicity Commissioner
-Drum Line (2 years), first chair mallet percussionist for 2 years as well
-Varsity track and cross-country for my freshman year. Went to CCS in track, and I got two top 10 school records in XC.
-Interact Community service (3 years), ~100 hours from that total
-Key Club (2 years)
-Calculus AP tutor/teacher's aide (~20 hours last year, ~60 this year?)
-Algebra I repeaters program tutor (5 hours a week)
I have other ECs, but these are what I put in the spots on my app so I don't think the rest matter, right :P
I'm majoring in math, so I hope the math tutoring will help me :P We also take California Math League tests (its a competition and they rank us at school) and I've been on the top 5 for that for 3 years, this year I am #1 (yay!). I also got the top nomination for the senior school awards for the best student in math and English.
And also, I recently got that Regent's scholarship from UC Irvine but I don't know if that neccessarily means anything |

| tcmzueck: your GPA/SAT are strong, though your ECs are not. Your time in China may help. I'd say slight reach (50-50), possibly a reach, depending on your essays (this is assuming that you're applying as a freshman). You'd probably have a better shot as a transfer. |
