seraphinel: weak GPA + OOS = reach for Berkeley, even with good scores + average ECs.

knguyen142: strong GPA and rank, slightly weak scores, average ECs, low-income status -- I'd say slight reach - match. Try to raise those scores, as vicissitudes said.

I'm pretty sure that UCs don't weight honors courses for OOSers.
Where did you hear this from?
I'd read it somewhere on the UC site, I think. Makes sense, though, since honors courses have to be approved in order to be weighted, and UC will (probably) only profile CA schools. I suppose it's possible that they'd weight certain honors courses for OOSers.

zzzisoo2: weak SAT, very slightly weak GPA, good SAT IIs, average ECs that show little passion/focus, and your intended major is very competitive. I'd say Cal's a slight reach - reach as it stands.

oh and I did horrible (half Bs) in my sophomore year which dramatically lowers my UC GPA. Family problems that I don't really want to mention on the app.

srabiee: I'd say Berkeley's a reach, especially since you're OOS. Try to make your essays the best you can -- you just might get in.

UC GPA: 3.67 (i wasn't sure if i should add in my honors classes since they're not techincally UC-approved, so i only added in my AP classes, if honors classes in my school count, it'd be around a 4.05)
GPA (W): 4.16 out of 4.3 (my school does GPA wierdly, an A in a regular class is a 4.3, but in an AP or Honors class is a 5.0, then they go down .3-.4 each step, so like an A- is a 4.0 i regular and a 4.7 in AP/Honors)
Rank: top 10-15% of a very competitive NJ public school (class size is ~250)
Courseload: One of most rigoress
AP Scores: Bio (3), Chem (4), AB Calc (5)
Senior Year APs: English Literature, BC Calc, Physics C, French

Out of State
Asian Male

SAT: 610 CR 730 M 750 W
SAT2: 740 Math 2, 560 Bio, 640 Chem
ACT: 33 (32 E, 34 M, 31 R, 35 S, 30 E/W, 9 Essay)

Plan on majoring in business, but I'd probably apply to College of Letters and Science since I can't apply to Haas.

Piano for 12 years, Viola for 4 years, babysitting, give piano lessons, volunteer work at Susan G Koman, extensive travel experience

(not sure if this makes a difference because i'm OOS and wouldn't expect any scholarships, but i do not need any sort of scholarship or anything from the school)

if you guys could also chance me for UCLA and UCSD, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Your GPA seems to be below-average. Your SATs are okay but SAT IIs are pretty low. ACT is pretty good though. Unfortunately, what I just said apply to in-state applicants, so as OOS (harder admission) I really don't think you have much of a chance. I'd guess 10% for Berkeley and UCLA, and 15-20% for UCSD.

Sorry guys, I've been busy. Be patient.

calivla: Good GPA, Good SAT scores, good ECs. ~70% chance. Btw, you don't need to send in recs.

drsarah: your GPA is a bit low...so is your SAT I score. You need to get those SAT II scores up. ECs look pretty good though. ~25% chance. By the way, they don't care about your race (feel free to write an essay about it though).

shortduderay: GPA's okay, not great. SATs are pretty bad, but your ACT scores are good enough I think. SAT IIs are decent, ECs are okay. ~60% chance.

Good luck guys.
