You're from singapore? So am I!!
If you're a male, are you doing NS? I'm going to surrender my permanent residence so I can avoid it. With those grades, did you try for any UK universities? You have a good chance of getting in those. As for US, I can't say because I think that your SAT I scores are a bit low. You should have thought about taking 3 SAT II tests instead of two.
I would say UC Berkeley is a reach.

Yup papu26, I was referring to you. And yes I'm from ACS(I).
I'm not really familiar with the universities you stated. But I'd say that you have a good chance at University of Penn. Go check out their page. Applicants with relatively low SAT scores and little or no ECs got in. Its a Ivy league college by the way. So if you stand a chance there, I would say you definitely stand a chance in the universities you stated.
Could you chance me back for UChicago, Harvard, MIT and UC Berkeley?

bitturiju,
From your profile, your a def getting in to UC Berkeley! , they rely quite heavily on sat scores and extra curricular, both of which are excellent in your case!
You have a really good chance at U Chicago too... So if u put in a good app, I am quite sure u could get in... anyway MIT and Harvard are reach schools considering that almost everyone who applies are prob as good or even better than you... U would also be able to get into U MIch or John Hopkins easily.

Hi! I'm quite new here. Can someone please rate my application?
I'm new here in California. I took high school from the Philippines, and I started college last fall. As of now, I'm taking Calculus, Psychology and Philosophy, along with high school level English.
I'm planning to major in Chemical Engineering.
I made my own schedule for the next two years, and so far I don't think I can do the Organic Chemistry Sequence as well as the Biology sequence (Both are not required, and I don't think they're recommended too). If all goes well, I'd be transferring with all the Math, Physics (even 7C equivalent), General Chemistry, English courses needed for admission. I also can get one Engineering course (Engineering 45).
I counted my transferrable credits, and the sum is 61 units.
I am deeply interested in Chemistry, as I am very curious about matter and the environment. I preferred to get Chemical Engineering because I don't think I'll be researching all my life. I am creative and imaginative as describe by my former mentors, and I also find these qualities in myself.
Next semester I'm planning to join the Math and Science club in our community college to have more insight about Chemistry. If the Filipino Club gets revived, I'll join them instead of the Honors Club.
As of now, I do volunteer tutoring at our campus in Math.
I don't have work, but next semester I am planning to volunteer in tutoring Math once again.
Do you think I have the slightest chance of getting admitted if I get a GPA of 3.7-3.9? I heard that they want people who have completed the most requirements. Does Berkeley prefer people with a rich cultural background? Or they solely look at your GPA, Personal Statement, and prerequisites completed?
Oh, I'm a green card holder BTW.
I just hope I get in, I always wanted to have quality education in preparation for my career in the future. =]
Thanks, I'll be viewing this post maybe after an hour or maybe tomorrow. Cheers.

California Resident
UC GPA: 4.90?, unweighted: 4.0, weighted: 4.83
SAT: 2400, ACT: 35
SAT II Bio, Math 2, and US Hist: 800, Lit: 780
AP Bio, US Hist, Calc BC, and Lang: 5, Euro: 4
Currently taking AP Lit, Gov/Econ, Stats, Chem
Band 4 years, Orchestra 4 years
Science Olympiad 3 years, treasurer 1 year
NHS 2 years
300 hours of community service at hospital
I've been tearing myself up debating whether to apply Engineering or not, because I don't have a lot of science-oriented ECs, and I've only taken AP Bio, AP Chem, and Honors Physics (chose a fourth year of orchestra over AP Phys). Would I have a chance at Engineering Undecided, or should I just stick with L&S? Thanks |

Reason: Didn't see that UC GPA is only last 3 years of HS

Even if I do Engineering Undecided? How much of a difference would it make if I applied to a different Engineering major instead?

UC GPA: 4.42
My high school uses a 0-100 scale and does not convert to a 4.0 (I have a 93.08 UW but my school does not weight GPAs at all. Also, I am not sure what that converts to because there are many conversion methods. College Board, for example, says a 93-100 is a 4.0)
Ranked 29/299 in one of the more competitive public schools in New York
Test Scores:
SAT:
M-750
R-580
W-680
ACT:
M-35
E-30
S-30
R-23
W-8
As you can see, I'm a good math student, but my reading is weak.
AP:
Physics B-5
Stats-5
Bio-4
US History-3
Literature-3
Currently enrolled in: Physics C (both mechanics and elec/mag), Calc BC (AB Subscore), US Govt/Politics, and English Language. Taking AP exams in May 2010
I'm applying to CLS as an applied mathematics major.
Pretty good EC's:
-Varsity Volleyball captain, all division honorable mention. I also got a league academic award
-FIRST Robotics
-VP of Science Olympiad Club
I lack the community service...I probably have less that 50 hours under my belt throughout high school. I'm not sure how much this weighs on my application. To name one activity, I volunteered at a nursing home weekly in the spring (totaled to 24 hours)
Oh, and I'm not sure what effect this has, but I'm a white male. Chance me?
