Clarification from myBerkeleyApp

Hello everyone,
I am involved with myBerkeleyApp so I can set the record straight on some of these questions.

1) The email in mid-March was sent to all freshman applicants who had never logged in to myBerkeleyApp to create a password

2) The email sent at the end of last week was sent to ALL FRESHMAN APPLICANTS. If you did not receive it, check your JUNK MAIL, SPAM MAIL, and make sure berkeleyinfo@berkeley.edu is in your email contacts/address book.

3) I lost track of what the third email was, but since it was earlier it is not relevant to this discussion

4) I will forward this thread, with its comments about the wording of the latest email, to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and I am sure they will read it, but (for obvious reasons) perhaps not before Friday

5) For many reasons, scores of emails bounce every time Berkeley sends out a bulk mail to applicants -- mailboxes are full, earthlink and other providers with strict spam policies block messages unless you have berkeleyinfo@berkeley.edu in your address book and have done some other special setup, your family may have switched email providers since November, there may have been a typo in the email address you put on the application, etc., etc.

6) If you have NEVER received an email from UC Berkeley since January AND you have not logged in to myBerkeleyApp and created a password, it is critical that you follow the instructions below.

Why? All freshman can find out their admission decision by logging in to myBerkeleyApp on Thursday evening or after. For students who are NOT admitted, this is the only way you are notified of the decision. For students who are admitted, a postal letter will follow.

If you've never received an email BUT you've already created a myBerkeleyApp password, you're ok -- it's unlikely Admissions will be sending more emails out before Thursday. After Thursday, if you are admitted, you will be able to create a berkeley.edu email account after you accept our offer, so whatever the problem is with your current email address becomes a moot point.

Here are instructions for anyone for whom #6 is true:

1) Do this before Thursday! All offices on campus will be closed Friday for Cesar Chavez day, so if you don't take care of this now you may have to wait until Monday if you end up needing assistance.

2) Get your UC Application ID and the email address you put on your application, and go to:
https://students.berkeley.edu/myberk...?todo=activate
to fill out the form. If you don't have your UC Application ID, there is a link on this page with instructions
-- if you get an error message to the effect that the Application ID or email address is not recognized,
-- OR if you get a message that an email is being sent, but you do not receive this email within about 15 minutes

CALL the Admissions Office, open between 1-4 p.m. (PST) at 510-642-3175. Tell them there is a problem with your email address and ask them to provide you with your activation key (which would normally be sent by email). After they ask identifying information, they can help you. YOU should do this, not your parent.

3) Now that you have your 4-character ACTIVATION KEY, go to:
https://students.berkeley.edu/myberk...=resetpassword
You will be prompted for your Activation Key and your Application ID, and you will be able to create a password on this page. From then on, use your Application ID and your new password to log in to myBerkeleyApp

We wish you the best, whatever news you find out on Thursday, so...

Go Bears!
Go Slugs!
Go Aggies!
Go Bruins!
Go Tritons!
Go Bobcats!
Go Anteaters!
Go Highlanders!
Go Gauchos!

P.S. This list is in random order, in case you're wondering...

@kyledavid - Now I figured why Berkeley sent that email #3 - to start this thread and reveal whether kyledavid is in high school!

Wow, that sure got me...

For a long time I was under the impression that kd is an adcom in some UC.

But then again just like we pour our analysis over that email, I re-read your post and you were not explicit if you are still in high school. All you said was:

"For what it's worth, I got Regents at UCLA and UCSC, and a likely letter from Stanford. I have received nothing from Berkeley.

(I'll probably get rejected. =p)"

It could mean you got regents 3 years ago, you may get rejected when you apply for grad. school...

Now, don't you think it will more fun analyzing kd's past posts than UCB's emails... LOL

You guys went nuts while I was gone. Can we leave it at 27 pages, or work all the way to 327 pages?

MyBerkeleyApp...It sounds like you are saying the wording of the email was meaningless. It was very cruel wording and made for an anxious weekend for many students waiting the hear from a top choice school. If you read the posts you can understand how mislead many posters were.

i love how the myberkeley app doesn't "remember" what the third email was for..hmmmmm i have my suspicions.

and if this wasn't a likely email (the third one)...Berkeley really needs to work on its wording..it just played with our minds..which is not fair to us just a couple days before decisions.

Anyone else know what the third email was, and how much earlier it was sent?

same here....only the 3rd email. I guess someone really wants to mess with some stressed out minds. It's really nasty.

Many on this thread have reported only getting the third email on the 21st or a little later, which is why mBA's explanation didn't seem to explain much.

The speculation and suspense continue...

if that is really berkeley...they shouldn't play with us anymore geez. but if it is, then maybe its good news he can't tell us what the third email was..cause obviously they can't say that it was a likely..that would be releasing decisions early ..just a thought

I agree with collegeboy13536.. what proof do we have that "myberkeleyapp" is actually from berkeley? Also, everyone did not get the 2nd one unless app is referring to #3 as #2 accidentally.

In any case, even if myberkeleyapp is from Cal, the post doesn't seem to say much against/for any of the speculation here... so keep speculating everyone.

myBerkeleyApp post

Thank you for clarifying on behalf of myBerkeleyApp.

Just to further clarify, is "myBerkeleyApp" contracted by the University of California to handle the administrative side of admissions notification or are you part of the University itself? I believe it's the former, but would like you to please correct me if I am wrong.

The most useful part of your post was to notify those students who did not receive any e-mail (so-called "Version 4") that they must figure WHY they did not receive any e-mail (spam filter, etc.). Otherwise, Thursday would have rolled around and they would not have been able to check their admission decisions, if I understand your post correctly.

As for the "I don't recall" Version 3 part of your post . . . very interesting, to say the least. I will hold off on contacting the University until after Thursday, depending on whether Version 3 recipients ending up being admitted. Bottom line, you don't tell prospective students to hold off on replying to other UCs if you are about to reject them. It's really that simple.
