Advice: on essays, be different! Don't talk about same ol' "I was president of this club". That is all well and good, but these admission officers get the same essays each year. talk about how you are different and what makes you unique!

yah it seems like an eternity. One of you applicants should time yourselves on how much time you spend on berkeley oriented stuff from when you start your application to the first day of school. I am not joking when I say that I think I have spent around 500+ hours doing applications, setting up accounts, telebears, housing applications, alcohol edu, transcripts and other cal stuff. And then when we had to wait for 1/3 of a year for our decision, but it is all worth it when we opened up our page and read the following:

“March 27, 2008
Dear ----------,
Congratulations! I am pleased to offer you admission to the University of California, Berkeley for fall 2008. You have been admitted to the College of --------------.

Given the record number and extraordinary quality of our applicants this year, this offer is a great accomplishment. You and your family have every reason to be proud of your academic and personal achievements.

Enjoy this moment and picture yourself at Berkeley, a place where you truly can change the world.

The next step for you to take is formal acceptance of our admission offer. Everything you need to do and know is available in the Next Steps section on the Home page (click the Home tab above) in myBerkeleyApplication.
Again, welcome to Berkeley! We believe in you and the unique contributions you will make here at Cal.”

Eventhough I did not cry, I helped myself to a big bowl of well deserved ice-cream. And come in less then one week we move in at Cal.

I know USC's letter and package really convinced me to almost go there.........., but Cal ultimately convinced me.

Although, It was shorter and without spice when compared to the other schools all I really cared about was when it said “Congratulation!”

Yeah USC had a REALLY good acceptance letter, haha.. and all the follow ups...

But yeah, Viro, the simple "Congratulations!" from Berkeley brightened my day more than anything USC gave me. Sorry USC, I still think you are a really great school.
