No History Minor?

I'm applying to Berkeley next year. I want to go to law school, but if that doesn't work out and I don't find another job, i'll probably be a teacher. Considering that I want to major in philosophy, I was considering in minoring in History to become a History teacher . However.Cal doesn't have a history minor, apparently (from what I read). Is there a anther minor that could either a) set up a good teaching back up plan or b) help me get employed somewhere else?

You could pretty easily double major in history and philosophy, if that is important to you. They are nicely related subjects, after all. To teach history in a public school you'd need a teaching credential, I imagine, but would you need to major in history?

I have the same problem except with the econ minor (or lack thereof). I think it's kind of silly that some minor programs don't exist. They're almost all the same anyway! All you do is take 5 upper division classes and BAM, you have a minor. It's not like it's much extra work for the administration (they don't need to create extra classes or anything), and it'd make things tons easier for the students.

So why on earth won't my 5 upper division econ classes count towards an econ minor?????

You can't teach history unless you major in history.

It's because the History dept has a required senior thesis...30-50 pages. I asked.
