Planned Schedule

How does this schedule look for a pre-business major?

Math 16A (3 units) - Lam
Chinese 7A, (Premodern Chinese Literature and Culture) (4 units) - Varsano
Geography 10 (4 units) - Sayre
Poli Sci 179 (1 unit colloquium)
DeCAL (2 units)

I'm not sure about the DeCAL part yet. I was going to sign up for freshman seminars but the 2 that I was interested in couldn't work out since one of them was filled and the other one conflicted with the math schedule.

instead of doing poli sci 179 or decal, try finding another easy course, it brings you up to better workload

take four real classes as opposed to what you have right now. What you have is very weaksauce. Drop the DeCal, and take a fourth class and possibly a legit seminar. You can only take seminars as a freshman pretty much (there are a few sophomore seminars, but they are a lot different).

Poli Sci 179 probably isn't appropriate for a freshman. DeCal isn't really appropriate for a freshman either. Your load is a little light, actually, I would add another real course.

How does this look now?

Math 16A (3 units)
Italian 40 (4 units)
Geography 10 (4 units)
History 6A (4 units)

Total = 15 units

Seems to me as if you're avoiding taking any substantial courses. This is the typical pre-business mentality though, so what can I say. Go for it.

It's a reasonable schedule. If i were you, I'd sit in on a few other similar type courses, try to pick the one that sparks your interest. I can see those courses being quite unpleasant unless they have very interesting lecturers.

Juventus,

I wouldn't listen to these other posters. Light course loads for incoming freshmen are recommended and expected. I took the bare minimum my first semester, which occasionally seemed too light, but I'm glad I had the extra time to explore campus, make friends, etc. Believe me, you'll work hard enough before you graduate.
