Football Tickets FYI

I looked for info on buying student tickets for my daughter and got what seemed like conflicting info on the website. I called the ticket office (at 510-64-Bears) and was able to buy tickets for the entire season (including the UCLA and Stanford games) for $97 plus $5 (tax? processing?) and also got a free t-shirt (which will be given out on campus at a date and place to be announced). I was told, come game time, she should "approach the stadium from the south (with all the other students) and head east" and swipe her ID card at one of several locations that will dispense a wristband, which will gain her admission to the game. I was told there will be "1000 to 1500" free student tickets available on July 22 at 8:30 and they will go VERY FAST.

Activate your account NOW. Otherwise it's a BEAR to try opening an account when you're trying to be one of the first 1,500 getting the free freshman tickets.

Just remember your account number & password, and it's a good idea once you get to the right website to activate the account, to link it or email the link to yourself, so at 8:30 on July 22nd, you're not wasting time trying to find the website and log in while 3,000 others are doing the same thing! And it ends up going slowly -- just like when offers of admission came out!

Schmoomcgoo> Just wondering, did the screen say "No Events/Items Available; Click here to continue" when you tried to purchase student tickets? I get that even though the 2008 Football Tickets main page says that student tickets are 3/4 sold out (implying that some are left).

Very helpful Beatchick, thanks! When you try and get the free tickets do you just go to the Cal Bears website and there will be a link or something for you to claim it?

Thatgirl - Yes, those are two reasons I called--I couldn't sort out the various messages I encountered on the website and they made me anxious that my football fanatic daughter would be miserable without tickets.

Castel, yes. A few days before the Freshman Free tickets go "on sale", you'll get an email from the Cal Athletic Tkt Office, which should have something like "Freshman Free Football Tickets" in the subject-line. There will be a link in that email, but you can also go to the student ticket section and it will suddenly appear there. Here's a copy of the email we got last year (keep in mind the dates last year are different than this year!):

FRESHMAN FREE

Cal Athletics would like to welcome you to the Cal Family.

Be sure to keep your eye out for emails from us throughout the year. These emails will provide you with the most up-to-date news, highlights, exclusive student contests and special offers.

As a new incoming freshman or transfer student, you are able to secure Free tickets to Cal football games.

On Monday July 23rd, freshmen can reserve their free tickets by clicking here or by logging on to CalBears.com and following the Student Tickets links.

If you have not already, be sure to register your account on-line by clicking here.

A limited number of tickets are available ... grab them fast.

With the Freshmen Free Program, you will receive entrance at no charge to the following Cal home games:

September 15 vs Louisiana Tech
September 22 vs Arizona
October 13 vs Oregon State
November 3 vs Washington State

For $30, you can ADD-ON these additional games and complete the 6 game home season:

September 1 vs Tennessee
November 10 vs USC

There is a $6 per order processing fee for all transactions.

These tickets are only available at CalBears.com starting Monday July 23 at 8:30am.

Click Here for Freshman Free Tickets.

For more information, please contact the Athletic Ticket Office at (800) GO BEARS, Monday-Friday 8:30am - 4:30pm PDT.

Keep in mind, except for Football and Men's Basketball, all Cal Athletic Events are FREE for all Cal Students.

Again, welcome to the Cal Family and be sure to keep your eye out for future emails from Cal Athletics.

GO BEARS!!

I don't know if I should risk trying to get the free tickets, or just be safe and buy them now.
