Having problems dropping math 1a

I want to drop math 1a with Christ and switch into Borcherds' lecture. Before I do this, what are the things I need to make sure of so I'll know I'll have a spot in the class? what I know right now is that I have to make sure there is a discussion open and I am in a good place on the waitlist. The problem arises when I search for math 1a with borcherds on the official course list. First of all, the class does not appear when I do a normal search. When I list all the classes, I notice that the discussions are full. Can someone explain to me why the class does not appear? Can you not put yourself on the waitlist for discussion sections?

Really, all I´m asking is whether I can waitlist myself for a dicussion or if I have to waitlist for an entire lecture and then hope the discussion is open.

You waitlist a discussion and then if you get into discussion, you get into lecture.
If you really need math 1A this semester, I don't recommend you dropping your spot in another lecture... there are ~25 people on Borcherds' waitlist with every discussion full. The only discussions without anyone on the waitlist are MW 8-9, 2-3, 4-5, or 5-6.

You'll have to drop Math 1A with Crist first, then add Math 1A w/ Borcherds. It should then say "this class is full, would you like to add to waitlist" and then you select which section you want to waitlist.
