Fridge size?

tyriontyrion Posts: 221Registered User Junior Member
been thinking about getting a mini fridge for the dorms, and so far i've seen some that are around 2 feet tall and some that are around 3 feet. i'm not sure how much room i'll have for the fridge, so i was wondering if you all had any advice on what size fridge i should be looking for..

I want to know about this too. And do most people rent or just buy a new one? How much does a new one approximately cost?

It depends on how much you think you'll put in the fridge.
Last year I bought the 1.7 cu ft, I ended up wishing I had bought the 2 ft one, because I feel that my ice box was too small (can't even totally fit a pint of ice cream), and plus I could have put more stuff in it.

I'd personally go for the 2 cu ft fridge; it only costs a little bit more. 3 ft may be too big, but that's up to you.

Most people bring/buy their own. The RAs are not going to fine you if they see that you have your own fridge. You don't have to buy the ones that Berkeley dorms supply (they're more expensive if you buy it from Cal :P).

    Here are some mini-fridges:

The one Cal supplies is pretty huge relative to the space you have. So any one you buy will be great. I'm buying a 3.1cubic feet. My dad wanted to get the 4.5 cubic foot one but it was sold out. I'm in a Stern double and the room is a little longer than the units, so my roomie and I visited the dorms at separate times and figured out that a 4.5cubic foot was perfect.

It also depends on your room obviously. If you're in a triple, you can have two mini fridges and if both of them are like 4.5cubit foot you might have a problem.

Edited to say that the one Cal lets you rent is 3cubic feet.

if you go for a mini fridge, look up the ones at Costco. they're great quality and hover around $150. there are 2 brands there at my local costco down in LA.

Well, it's relative to how much other junk you and your roommate have. So talk to your roommate.....and always opt out for the smaller one just in case.
