Can I become an investment banker with a Undergrad in Computer Science?

john2john2 Posts: 198- Junior Member
I want to become a i-banker but the only major that is related to business at our school is econ. Will I be at a disadvantage? I'm thinking of Computer Science with a minor in econ or minor in stat or math?

Maybe. I was at the career fair a couple weeks ago and Goldman Sachs was looking for EECS majors.

    invastmant bankar here

GS is looking for an EECS to fill their IT programming roles, it's not investment banking... they need programmers too you know..

you can be any major you please... as long as you have the grades, interest + knowledge in finance, and relevant business internships... like F500 Corp Fin or boutique investment banking summer internships ur fresh, sophomore year...

john2, yes you can become an investment banker with almost any kind of undergraduate degree, provided that you get the proper MBA degree from a decent school.

Sure, why not? Even poli-sci majors can become investment bankers. For example, according to the Career Center, poli-sci students obtained analyst/associate positions at Lehman, Bear Stearns, Merill Lynch, and Lazard. (Granted, maybe the first two are ominous examples.)

Even psych majors can become analysts at Goldman Sachs.

Even Legal Studies majors can become analysts at JPMorganChase.
