    12 is the minimum.

    really? i thought it was 13 for L&S students and 12 for engineering. then again, i think engineers are taking like 16 a semester so you shouldnt have a problem with that.

    chances are he will be dropping a few. unless they are easy classes

    There is a limit, but you can petition over that limit. 24 units is doable, but if the classes are tough it could be insane. Freshman have a lot of options to add in some extraneous units, e.g. decals and seminars, which aren't very difficult.

    12 for engineers and 13 for everyone else - Alliance is right... except for the part about engineers taking 16 a semester (I've taken 13, 12, and going on 12 more!) hahah

    Oh come on, engineers typically take 15-16 units each semester. Just because you're taking a light load doesn't mean others are.
