@wishfuldreams: Depending on your GPA, can mean disqualification and will be evaluated for dismissal. Ultimately, the decision for dismissal is from the Dean of your college [Engineering, Letters & Science, etc.]. It may be helpful to read this:
UC Davis General Catalog | Probation and Dismissal
In short, if you have a 2.0 or greater, you're fine.
If you have less than a 2.0 and greater than a 1.5, you will be placed on academic probation [AP] for the first time since this is your first quarter [does not mean immediate dismissal]. If you are on AP more than 1 time in a row, you will be evaluated for dismissal.
If you have less than a 1.5 you will be evaluated for dismissal.
Hopefully you are not dishearted by your performance in your first quarter. The first quarter is often the most difficult as you have had an exiguous amount of time to adjust.
I can speak to this personally since I have been on AP 2 times in a row and was subject to dismissal myself. Luckily they gave me one more quarter to redeem myself and I graduated in a little over 4 years. Hang in there!
