collegemom16: i COMPLETELY forgot to mention that i try to snowboard every weekend. haha =] i guess it's because this season wasn't that good =/ i got a season at alpine meadows, about 2 hours from davis, but there are resorts as close as 1.5 hours from davis.
NorCalLove: tahoe is approx. 1.5 hours away to the nearest resort. squaw valley is approx 2 hours away. almost all students bring laptops, because they're convenient to move around if you want to study with friends and stuff. taking notes in lecture on your laptop is personal preference, but i think you'll find taking notes in a standard spiral notebook is most convenient, and therefore most students leave their laptops in the dorms. the reason i have a laptop is because if i ever go home, its my only computer with all my stuff on it, and i dont wanna lug around a desktop to my friends dorm if i wanna study. =)
kmass: it depends on how social you are, and if you prefer more privacy, or prefer a more sociable environment. i recommend segundo first, then cuarto, then tercero. segundo and tercero are typical dorms, with long hallways with rooms branching off. cuarto is more of a motel type setting, where you enter into a living room, and 3 bedrooms branch off of each living room.
Relentless355: English rocks, I've already mentioned this, but if you're interested in being an English major, take English 3 with Walker your freshman year-- you wont regret it, i promise!

I'm looking through a course booklet I bought today, and I was wondering which classes are the easiest way to fulfill the GE requirements in the least amount of time with the highest probability of getting an A? [that was a mouthful]
oh, and also a breakdown of the course booklet would be really helpful. I understand that it's possible to fulfill all of the requirements in 6 courses, so does that mean when it's in the course booklet and it says GE CREDIT: ArtHum,Wrt does that mean in that one class both of those requirements are satisfied?
any advice would be really appreciated.

Well, to be quite honest, you don't want to fulfill all your GEs in as few courses as possible. Most majors around 110 units, so you still have 70 units to fill with classes, many of which can be GEs. You want to spread out your GEs over your 4 years, so you're taking some hard classes and some easier GEs.
As for which classes are "easy As," I'm not gonna comment. First, determining whether a class is easy is very subjective. Second, college isn't about easy As, it's about learning new stuff. So take classes that are interesting, not classes that are easy As.

Is it still possible to participate in federal work study if your eFAN doesn't list that as an award? Of all the people I know that are going to Davis, none of them have the award to do work-study, whereas UCSC gave that award to many. Maybe it's we're undergrad freshies? Hmph.

If you want easy classes take the "10" of the department if they offer one (ie. Classics 10, food science 10) because these classes are usually easier than the typical fare the department offers.

Hi, I'm a new member, and I wanted to ask if it is true that they are placing three people into the double dorms? I have heard that they are, and they aren't so I'm kind of confused

I'm not sure about this year, but my friend, who is currently at Davis and is a freshman, is in a triple, and he says it sucks the worst out of all the housing options.
I'm not sure which site it is, or I would give you the link, but if you check out the floor plans for housing at the Davis site, it does look like the triple is the most cramped...

Being in a triple is an option and not at all mandatory. The students who tripled chose to in order to save money. You will have the opportunity to choose which type of housing you want when you fill out your housing application after you submit your SIR. The good news is that you can change your mind (by going to my.ucdavis.edu and changing your housing information) up until the 31st of July so don't worry about that.

Is it possible to get a single and would you recommend it? What's the best dorm, in your opinion?

Relentless, I'm considering going to Davis, so I can't tell you from first-hand experience. However, one student I talked to recommended Segundo first, Tercero second, and Cuarto third. He said Segundo was the best choice because it's close to all the places you'll need to go to on campus and it's easier to make friends there since it's a traditional dorm. Tercero is the same, except for the cows. -__- He didn't recommend Cuarto because it's not really on campus, so it may be harder to make friends. Cuarto has more suite-style rooms though, so if that's your thing go for it.
It's probably not a good idea to live in a single dorm anywhere, unless you're a really REALLY private person.

Castilian (Cuarto is just one of the Castilian dorms) has many advantages too. First off many of the students will tell you they are the most social of all the dorms. They have semi private bathrooms two or three students to a bathroom as opposed to eight to eleven. Since the bathroom is in your room you can leave all your belongings in it as opposed to having to caddy them back and forth. You will have cupboard and drawer space in the bathroom. You have a great deal more privacy. All but one building have their own pool and spa. They have the biggest closets by far and the bonus of an extra sitting room. Also they are only two story buildings so no waiting on an elevator.
Tercero is close to the dairy ranch but really only one side of the building will notice that and most will tell you they don't. Tercero is the newest and has really nice rooms. They also have x-long beds in Tercero.
