ELC guaranteed admission to Davis?

On the UC admissions website, I read that ELC students would be guaranteed admission to Davis for the fall of 2008. Is this still true?

I see that some people have already received letters or emails from Davis about this. My D received letters from Riverside & Merced telling her she was guaranteed admission, but nothing from Davis. Should she have received something? She had to do that random application verification, could that be holding up her application?

UC Davis is offering guaranteed admissions to all ELC students. We sent a letter to all ELC students that should have been received by the end of October or early November. If your student did not receive this letter please make sure that they were selected as ELC and not as "Qualified On Track" (QOT). QOT students were reviewed during the ELC process but were not selected as ELC but, are still very strong candidates for admissions. I believe that Riverside and Merced have recently sent out messages to QOT students regarding admissions at the campuses but you would have to confirm these messages with their campuses.

UCD Admissions, my D is definitely ELC, and applied using the ELC student ID#. We did get an email that they got her application, but nothing that refers to ELC or a guarantee of admission. Should I contact admissions to ask about this? She really wants to go to Davis.

UCD Admissions, I know this is a little off topic, but does that "QOT" designation show up somewhere in the UC admissions process, and if so how?

Shrinkrap: I believe "QOT" only appears in the ELC letter that is sent by the University of California letting students know if there were selected as ELC or as QOT. This letter normally is received by students the end of September.

Blankmind: If you want to verify that she is ELC an adviser at the office should be able to verify that we have the application as ELC. You can also PM me with the Application ID number and I can check for you. Its an easy check and will only take a couple of seconds.

Thanks again UCD Admissions, that's what I assumed, but when I read this

"QOT students were reviewed during the ELC process but were not selected as ELC but, are still very strong candidates for admissions. I believe that Riverside and Merced have recently sent out messages to QOT students"

I wondered if schools knew that students had been reviewed for ELC....any thoughts?

Applicants who were part of the ELC process, even if not selected as ELC, are given a PIN number. Using this pin number when applying to the University will provide the information to the campuses on if the applicant was reviewed for ELC and their status (Selected or not). Providing this information will not harm or hinder an application in any way.

Yes, I see. Well if it matters, I'm glad My D re-did her UC app. with the ELC PIN number and I hope others pay attention to that advice.(In September it seemed a lot of people had already started their UC apps when the EC letters came).

UCD Admissions - do ELC students have a guaranteed/very high chance at regents?

ELC students tend to be those who are in the upper 5-10% of their class in high school. Regent's Scholars comprise a much smaller group (generally a small subset of ELC students). That is, perhaps 2-5% of ELC students will be offered Regent's Scholarships. Regent's Scholarships are very prestigious (and very substantial--in 2007, at least $7000 annually and up to the total cost of attendance). So, to answer the question directly, ELC students may be on track to be competitive for a Regent's, but it is by no means a guarantee.

well i was simply considering from statistics. ELC is the top 4% of class -- period. then, not even all of those students (i have no actual estimate of how many tho) apply to davis. if that is the case, then it seems that many of them have a really good chance at Regents. so is the case, apparently, with UCI. i was actuallly hoping for confirmation from the UCD Admissions poster..

ELC students being the top 4% of the class compared to the local high school are very prepared students. I’m not in the scholarship office so I don’t handle regents but being ELC is not a guarantee to the Regents Scholarship since being top 4% of the local high school doesn’t necessarily mean you are in the elite top of all applicants. For a better answer I’d contact our scholarship office and they can go into more detail or review Regents Scholarship .
