How Does UC (Davis) Handle Summer Classes for GPA Calculations ?

My D did an eligible summer school course in a Science subject the summer after 9th grade and before 10th grade year. This was done outside of her regular school. She got an A in this. Her HS is listing the summer school Science class as Transfer course as Term 3 of 9th grade. I was expecting this to count towards her 10th grade GPA.

Question: (1) which year she should get credit for this course on the transcript ?

Why does it matter ? UCs count only 10th and 11th grades. So this will make a slight difference in her overall GPAs in "diluting" her B's as well as her class rank. (2) Does UCD assign the year based on the school transcript, or based on when the course was taken.

Finally, if she did a course after 11th grade summer, will it count towards her senior year or junior year (for the purposes of UC GPA calculations) ? This will help her plan her upcoming summer between different activities.

Generally high school level courses taken in the summer are counted into the next year. For my children, summer school courses they took after 9th grade counted as 10th grade on their high school transcripts. Have you questioned your d's high school counselor as to why they are placing a course taken after she completed 9th grade in her 9th grade GPA?

As for college level courses taken after 11th grade, UCD admissions has said on here that you can put them in either spot. My son listed a CC course he took the summer after 11th grade as a part of his junior year information.

Here's how UCD Admission responded to another question in the same thread referred to by collegemom16 ( I think)

"UC GPA" question
"The UC GPA is a weighted GPA for all courses, high school and College level courses, completed in the 10 and 11 grade years. Note that the day after you end your 9 grade year is the start of your 10 grade year; so summer between 9 and 10 grades is counted in the UC GPA. Only UC approved honors courses are considered when weighting the GPA for the first 8 semesters of coursework."
