I think the number of things to do really depends on the person.
Maybe if you're someone who needs to be entertained and needs to be out and always DOING SOMETHING, Davis might seem 'boring.' If you are someone who can have a great time hanging out with friends or other creative activities I hear Davis offers, then ... well, you shouldn't have a problem.
But, I like that Davis is a college town, and that not many students go home on the weekends. Maybe it being 'boring' will ensure that more friends are made. I live next to UCLA, and I never wanted to go there because it's so fast-paced and I never got the 'community feeling' I want while on the campus - everyone seems to go to class, stick with their few friends, get class done, get off campus, and scatter all throughout the city. It might not be like that but that's how it felt to me. So, I'm considering Davis for the very things others categorize as "boring."
(Also, think how different every person's interpertation of 'boring' is.)
At least that's my opinion, of course, I have yet to visit next month.
