I received an e-mail from the Bookstore saying that they were offering discounts for students but I think it's limited time only or as long as supplies last.
You can also get a 10% discount from the Apple Store if you want a Mac ( (I believe it was 10% but I may be remembering incorrectly.) Here is the direct link to the UC Davis online Apple Store.

do the majority of people at UCD use Apple laptops? because I'm more of a Windows guy (have been for all my life) and just wondering if i will have to make the transition
thats what im trying to find out as well. there could be factors that could hinder/inconvenience windows users if the majority are apple users i think...
More people use Windows at UCD. You'll see a good amount of Macs, but there's at least three times more Windows-based laptops... mostly 'cause it's A LOT cheaper! =]. I do love Leopard, though. I just wish Apple would give us more options for customizing the hardware inside the laptop like Dell and HP ($2000 for a laptop? No thanks!)
They give discounts for Dell computers, if you want to go the PC route. link
I've had horrible experiences with Dell in the past so I went with the Mac. Had they given discounts on, say, an Alienware, I would have gotten a PC instead.
