| I just got back home after attending orientation yesterday. I'm a transfer student...Interesting experience. UCD is a freakin huuuuuge campus...perhaps it's that i went to a relatively small high school and then a community college. That could be why it felt so amazingly big, but i don't know. All i know is there was a LOT of walking and oh soooo many bikes. I can already tell how annoying those bikes are going to be the next 2 years. I don't at all blame them though, because the damn campus is basically a city in itself. I'd ride a bike too if it didn't remind me of something Danny Tanner would do. The presentations were pretty lame in the beggining, i felt like i was at a high school rally...I understand that they were trying to get us excited and fill us with a newly found "aggie pride", but after forcing me to wake up at 6 30 am to get there in time by 8, i really didn't want screaming and loud noise. Perhaps many felt the same way, because later in the day, like 2pm or so, we had more presentations; i kid you not when i say atleast 10 people around me were DONE. They were knocked out cold with their ZzzZ's as the boring details of health services, financial aid, and internship programs were presented to us. Then, after that torture, we finally signed up for classes and left.......That's how the transfer orientation went. I imagine the freshmans would get something similar except it won't all be shoved and forced together, and instead will span over 3 days. That should take away a lot of the "PLEASE FRICKIN END NOW" feeling many of us had by the midway point. Information oveeeeeeeeerlooooooad to say the least for us transfers...
Also, the orientation was completely pointless as far as showing the students around goes. I'm going to be so lost on the first day. |
