Waitlisting for a closed class!?

i waitlisted for a "CLOSED - 00 waitlisted" Chem2A class, meaning i'm first on the waitlist. However, i saw a few chem classes that were "OPEN - 09 waitlisted."

i'm confused. should i have waitlisted for the OPEN class instead? i don't understand what these open and closed classes mean!

I had the same question when i registered. I asked the counseling people when I had a meeting and they didn't know why it said that either. The "closed-waitlist" class eventually added me when someone dropped.. i'm not sure why some are open and some closed - wouldn't worry about it though

Already explained this but here goes (again): I believe it's marked "closed" because there's been no recent activity in the section -- in other words, no one has been dropping the course.

Hence, it's "closed" since it's already at full capacity. Now, if someone were to drop, it would be marked "open" again because the section wouldn't be at full capacity (and thus, there would be room available, hence the "open" categorization).

Hope that helps.
