Waitlisted classes

Are we supposed to attend those?
Kinda confused about that because of the other thread that talked about going to labs for the class you waitlisted in order to get in.

Haha, I also read that post too. It was a little ambiguous as to what he/she meant be "fair." Either means that they don't go by alphabet at lab or (since each lab session is smaller than lecture) you're competing with less students who have names that begins before your name.

Its my first year at davis, but if its anything like my CC, labs are generally more crucial for getting into the class. Generally, lectures have lots of room but labs do not and you need to take both (at my CC, you could have passed lab but not lecture and retake the class without the need to take lab) so its a lot better if you got into lab. Plus labs are smaller so its easier to talk with the professor about getting into the class. So yeah, if its like my CC, lecture is large enough to accommodate those in labs, so if you're not in a lab session, then you shouldn't be attending lecture. Since labs have less of a drop rate (well... at least until the first lab exam or first exam in lecture), if you're not in lab within the first week or two, don't plan on getting in.

Anyway, I would suggest you still go to lecture since they give out good information the first day. You can even pester the professor about getting in if they'll even listen. But yeah, make sure to attend lab.

Just a side note but:
I'm not sure how the computers work at Davis, but at my CC, you're automatically enrolled if a student drops and you're #1 on the wait list... BEFORE class starts. After class starts, you need a permission number to get into the class even if the class has enough room for you because a bunch of students dropped on the first day of class. Since you get permission numbers from the teacher, its up to them if they go by last names or wait list. From the post before, it seems like they don't get a wait list number and instead just get an alphabetized list of those on the wait list so its unfair to those with last names starting with 'Z' or near it.

You should probably wait for a more experienced Aggie to respond though. I got into a lot of my classes (thank God that there aren't as many ECS majors since I did sign up kinda late) but this is useful information for me too so I'll be checking this thread too. Anyway, if no one replies in time, you can probably just drop by the campus and talk to a counselor. If you do do that, post the info they give you so I can read it ^__^. Or you can just ask a student there. Last time I was there, some seniors were doing something in a stand (maybe a promotion of some sort?) and I asked them for directions to the letters and sciences building. Then I decided to ask them a bunch of other questions and they answered with all the experience they had haha.

ooh, thanks for the tips+info! The thing is the class I waitlisted is Beginning Sculpture, which isn't separated into lecture/lab, so it doesn't exactly fit into that situation. But info regarding both is appreciated, as I'm sure it'd come in handy for future classes.
