overall atmosphere at uc davis?

i've heard it is relaxed, laid-back, friendly...anything else? how academic/intellectual is it? what is the culture built around? (i.e. sports? greek life? parties/drinking?)

it's extremely friendly. it's as academic/intellectual as you want it to be - it all depends on who you surround yourself with and what you do. the culture is built around what you want it to be built around.

sorry if all that sounded vague, but it's what i've noticed in my short time here so far (i'm a freshman, this is my first quarter). it's just that when you have so many different people in such a small place, you HAVE to get out there and find whatever you want to do, be it sports, parties, music, greek life, or whatever. it's almost completely based on what you do: hardly anything here will come to you unless you actively seek it.

Everything is what you make of it. If you like to be busy, you will find enough to keep yourself busy. If you want to party, you can party every night. If you want to join a frat... well you'll have no problem. If you like IM sports then you will have a great time. However, if you like to be left alone more often than not, then Davis can do that for you too.

The only thing that CAN'T satisfy you, though, is support for our athletics. Sometimes the football games have good attendance, but our basketball teams (r anything besides football for that matter) get very little support. Could be because we have barely transitioned to D1 and are at the bottom of the pack

^i don't particularly care about the basketball support cuz i rarely attend games of any kind. i just hope there is SOME football culture cuz i'd like to experience "college football"/school spirit/that whole thing sometimes in my life, but not have the school dominated by it either. is that what it's like at davis?
