| UC-wide Faculty Walkout
Some UC faculty members are organizing a system-wide walkout. Should be an interesting school year.

First I heard of it. I know of at least half a dozen UC faculty so I'll see what they are thinking (they are all in the sciences.)

Do you guys honestly think this will be of any effect?
I mean don't get me wrong, I will most likely be participating on it too! I just really wish the UC had an edowment like that of Harvards.

I doubt it will get much publicity. I think what will stick out is the fact that teachers are walking out on their class for the first day of class. They won't get the sympathy they desire because of this.

University of California administrators say they want to keep things running as smoothly as possible Thursday - the first day of school at many campuses - when many faculty, staff members and students are expected to walk out of classes, host rallies and stage a systemwide labor strike for technical employees.

| I think it'll be pretty big. My campus is basically shutting down. I have no idea if it'll change anything but I hope so.

FindAPlace, I have the sense that the walkout is mostly being planned by humanities and social science faculty.
| I'm not surprised.

All of my professors today at UCSC completely ignored the strike. Funny thing, one of my professors was surprised by a full class of 300 students who all showed up.

| The only surprise should be that someone dares to admit there are classes of 300 students at the UC system. |

| I am not ashamed to admit it-- my freshman general chemistry class had 1200 students after 250 dropped the class.
