Repeating a course that's no longer offered?

Let's say I got a D in a course at a UC, and I want to repeat the course, but it's no longer offered? Is there then no way to eliminate (by that, I mean repeat and get a better grade, I know both will show up on the transcript) the grade leaving it stuck on my transcript forever?
