jvo331 - If you look around college confidential, you will see that this is the standard format for reporting results for a UC, IVY, or any school. If you find this information irrelevant, perhaps you are on the wrong website.

rachel2013 - Thank you for posting this.

Decision: Accepted into CHP

Objective:
  • SAT I (breakdown): 760 CR, 630 M, 800 WR
  • ACT: Did not take it
  • SAT II: 750 U.S. History, 730 Literature (on 2nd try)
  • Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.95
  • UC GPA: 4.4(?) Not completely sure.
  • Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): Top quintile, but UC does not consider rank.
  • ELC?: Yes
  • AP (place score in parenthesis): European History (5), Language and Composition (5), U.S. History (5). Currently enrolled in Literature and Composition, Government, and Calculus AB.
  • IB (place score in parenthesis): None
  • Senior Year Course Load: Economics, Physics, the three APs mentioned above, Yoga, Religions of the World, and Spirituality in Literature
  • Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Commended Student, AP Scholar
Subjective:
  • Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Middle school tutor, high school tutor in essay revision, student newspaper (Opinions Editor, Co-Editor-in-Chief)
  • Job/Work Experience: None
  • Volunteer/Community service: Assisted the visually impaired during the summers before junior and senior year (8 hrs/wk during the 1st summer, 15 hrs/wk during the second)
  • Personal Statement: Discussed how I want to avoid repeating my mother's mistakes; my novel and what writing means to me
Other
  • Applied for Financial Aid?: Just filed my FAFSA today!
  • Intended Major: I was accepted into the English major, but I'm currently thinking about doubling in English and Economics.
  • State (if domestic applicant): CA
  • Country (if international applicant):
  • School Type: Private, religious
  • Ethnicity: Chinese (I purposely excluded this from my application)
  • Gender: Female
  • Income Bracket: <$100,000
  • Hooks (URM, first generation college, research, etc.): None
Reflection
  • Strengths: My academic record and test scores. Maybe the fact that all my extracurriculars are related to the field of English/writing.
  • Weaknesses: I wish I'd done more extracurriculars and been more extensively involved in general.
  • Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: My academic record and overall commitment to English probably painted a picture of me as very focused and decisive about what I want, I think. (Or maybe I'm just being egotistical about that last bit.)
General Comments: The fact that I got into CHP means that UCI is definitely a significant choice for me to consider. If I fail to get into either UCLA or Berkeley (which I hope will NOT happen), I'll probably lean toward UCI for this reason.

  • UC GPA: 4.18
  • Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): School doesn't rank

  • Job/Work Experience: none
  • Volunteer/Community service: Library volunteer, Religious organization teacher/teacher aide
  • Personal Statement: One was about my interest in engineering and the summer program and classes I've taken to pursue it. The other one was about the importance of French, Arabic, and my own native language in my life since I was a child.
Other
  • Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes
  • Intended Major: Electrical Engineering
  • State (if domestic applicant): California
  • Country (if international applicant):
  • School Type: Competitive, high-ranked public school full of Asians.
  • Ethnicity: Asian
  • Gender: Female
  • Income Bracket: ~$90K

  • Weaknesses: Lack of strong extracurriculars, especially relating to engineering and leadership positions.

General Comments: I'm very surprised I got CHP - only about 600 of the 5,000 incoming freshmen are CHP students! Still waiting on other UCs, but I am very happy with this offer.
Good luck to everyone else

@annabanana0727, it's because they release the honors acceptance first before the regular decisions.
