There's no 'better' residence hall in regards to your major. Your first year, your classes should be scattered all around campus so it doesn't matter where you live.

Arroyo Vista is different from Mesa and Middle because it's mostly upperclassmen who live there. A lot of them are in frats/sororities. You don't need to buy a meal plan if you live in AV.

Mesa Court is newer than Middle Earth and it has better furniture (haha I think.) it's right next to the Claire Trevor School of the Arts so I'm sure a lot of arts majors live there.

My vote for freshmen overall would be Mesa Court. But Middle Earth isn't that bad, odds are you'll enjoy your experience at either residence hall. AV is not as good for freshmen since only a small percentage of it is freshmen where as MC and ME is ALL freshmen. Although, I would guess that they might have added more freshmen houses in AV this year but I don't know.

For food--The edge goes to Middle Earth. I used to think that Mesa Commons was better than Pippin but things have changed and now I think Pippin has more to offer. Also, ME has brandywine which is smaller and not open on the weekends and stuff but it has really good sandwhiches among other things that make it unique. Mesa commons is pretty good though so really either dorm complex should be good. Some freshmen like to complain about dorm food blah blah blah, but I think it's pretty frickin good. I never really got sick of it and even bought a meal plan my second year when I didn't live in the dorms (not a full one) so that I could eat in the dining halls fairly often.
